At NYST this weekend we had a guy strip out the bottom threads on the bolt that holds his tank and seat to the frame on his Aprilia. All one piece held in by that single bolt. The fix was thread locker, since the top threads held just the bottom ones didn't. No issues after that, he ran in Expert all weekend.

Not today, yesterday. And not me, my dad. But a handy application of JB Weld got my mirror reattached after the less than graceful plop on the training course Saturday.
My poor bike, finally crossed the line of things being held on by zip ties, electrical/duct tape, and now home repaired metal parts.

Well, you know, whatever works. I'm not above using zip ties or paracord or whatever is handy. If it truly disturbs me, I can replace it later with the proper thing.

I got to use my emergency cable kit!
Went for about a 100 mile ride through the Northern VA farming and horse country. About 15 miles from home I pulled the clutch in and the lever stayed that way. Managed to pull over into a local park. Well this isn't going to make getting home easy. Oh wait, don't I have that cable kit thing I bought off Amazon? Yep here it is, in the bottom of the tank bag. Had a little extra cable and nothing to cut it off with (Note to self, Leatherman goes in tank bag) Got me home. A well spent $10. Just ordered a replacement kit, and one each for my son and daughter. |

They were in good shape. Had to clean up the front one, had a cacoon casing in it. Sprayed it with brake cleaner and wiped it out.

So did you disassemble them? Inspect the pistons? Seals? Grease the slider pins? Flush the old fluid?

Skeptical dog can remain skeptical, its like telling an OCD person you cleaned your house. Only service the inner working if they are appearing weathered or your doing a full maintenance on the bike. I am waiting to do a flush on the brake fluid until after the brake pads are broke in. Pistons were able to be pushed in by hand and visually are as shiny as a new printed/polished penny. I pressed and pulled on the slider and it slide without any portions feeling as if they had any rough spots. They are sound in my view.

I know where you're coming from and I know you're right. Generally accepted best practice is to do a nice clean/inspect/lubricate job on a caliper when you change pads instead of just doing a pad slap. HOWEVER... it's not your bike and it's not worth getting holier-than-thou about it. DEFY has been around here a while, not some newbie who's had to introduce his hand to a wrench for the first time. Asking once was enough; no need to be elitist. #callingyouout because we all get a bit ahead of ourselves at times. Myself included. |

New chain. After I changed it I was having a difficult time getting into 1st gear. After doing a search of your friendly neighborhood ninjette, I adjusted the shifter.

I can't remember if I need to changed the oil or not. I haven't been paying attention to mileage. With it raining, maybe I'll check the valve lash since it's cooler than the 100+ degree weather.

If you can't remember when the last time was that you changed the oil then you need to go ahead and change oil and start keeping track.
