Slightly used AEM UEGO Wideband AFR meter + sensor

As the title says, it's a lightly used (installed for <2 weeks, ~500mi) AEM UEGO AFR gauge. It's practically new, works like new and looks that way too.
Got my bike dialed in to my satisfaction, don't feel like/can't afford keeping it around.
Link to manufacturer

Asking $175 shipped within the US. International I'll have to ask for shipping cost.

Happy to provide photos of what I'm shipping upon request. Just don't feel like unpacking it at the moment.

Stock photos:

Comes with all the stock parts in the original box:
-the meter
-wiring for power and sensor
-instructions book
-alternate bezels/faceplates
-O2 sensor
-a bung to weld into your exhaust for the sensor (I ordered a second one originally and used that)

Also has the water-resistant boot installed, to tidy up the back and keep water out of it. The front is NOT waterproof though. I had it under the windscreen to keep it out of the weather. It never got wet.

The power cable has an SAE-type power plug soldered on, so you can just use a battery tender-type plug to directly the battery. Happy to remove it for you if you'd prefer to use another kind of connector.

I'm moving this weekend, so here's a little price dip. Hope to be back online mid next week.

Now there's a business opportunity. I considered a similar "loan/borrow" type thing for ninjette last year but never worked out the details.

Funny thing is that before I bought this, I was looking for exactly the same option. Thanks for the reminder guys.

How's this:

The 'borrower' paypals me the $200 upfront as a deposit (the full cost of a replacement). I'll keep $15/week (shipping will be paid from this) and return the remainder to you when I receive it back and have a chance to check it over for any excessive damage. Not that I doubt you'd take good care of it, but for my own protection. The 'rental' will start as of the day it's delivered and end as of the date it's postmarked (so if it takes a week in transit, I won't charge ya for that). Anything missing or significantly damaged (I'll be lenient) when I open the box will come out of the deposit for replacement cost, at the manufacturer's list price.

Two caveats: you'll need to supply your own O2 sensor bung (and plug bolt). Alternatively you can use the ones in the box and I can take $8+shipping from your 'rental' fee to get another set from AEM. You'll also need a fused battery-tender type bung (SAE) that hooks to the battery for power. Again, alternatively I can order one and include it for temporary use (or you can keep it and I'll take its cost from the deposit). Need to remember to unplug it when your bike's not on.

Questions? Issues? Thoughts?

Nice guys! I spent months fine tuning mine. I wish this were an option then.

Cool idea. I like it. I'm pissed I let my last car go with the LM2 attached.

We should maybe set up a sticky or forum in the f/s section (?) to allow us to post up things that we are willing to lend out. Part/tools for borrow?

This forum seems like it's pretty tight knit so it may work out.

It would work but ideally on a dyno, plus those sensors are not cheap. Bungs are cheap and can be bought really easy and just plugged when not in use. Plus they can be placed upstream where they can collect the best data.

Summit and jegs sells the bungs and plugs as well.

O2 bungs are pretty standard. I think it's something like 18mm x 1.5 thread pitch. I briefly had an Area P with a pre-welded bung and it fit just perfect, so no problems anticipated there.
As far as the how-to for tuning, I've used the following threads as my main resource. Some are long, but they're very educational reading. In one of 'em, you'll even see me asking the exact same questions you just did

Like Dan said, bungs are cheap and usually so is getting them installed (I just called around to local muffler shops). I'm pretty sure that stick-thing is a long skinny probe. This is designed for semi-permanent installation with the bung. One could just tie the sensor to a metal stick, but the problem with these sensors and our exhaust is that we've got a ~1.5" diameter exhaust tube (before the muffler). Sticking the whole frickin' probe down there more than little (which ya need to do to get accurate data) a will block a very large proportion of the exhaust gas, leaving back pressure in the pipe (making it marginally harder for the engine to do what it needs to) and distorting the data. The bung allows just the tip of the sensor to stick into the tube, getting good data from just behind the Y-pipe junction without blocking gas flow.

This forum seems like it's pretty tight knit so it may work out.
We've had certain tools be passed around in the past, like the hard-to-find and only needed once #70 drill bit for drilling carb slides. Think we eventually lost track of 'em, but they're only a few $.

I'd be happy to extend this rental offer to any established users on the forum. But I agree maybe setting up a special subforum group for this kind of thing may be a good call. For me, this is an experiment and I'd rather my tools get some use than just sit in my closet. Mostly asking for funds to guarantee it comes back and repair/replace parts on this if/when they break.

And Alex, for the record, I won't hold you or the forum as a whole responsible if this goes sour

first dibs on the rental! however, i won't have time to work on my bike till next weekend. so if we can workout a shipping schedule that would have the unit show up on Thursday/Friday of next week that would be optimal for me. I have my own bung and tender adapter, so I should be good to go. let me know.

Haven't heard back from Skippii, so 1st dibs are yours Lor. Will coordinate over PM.

For clarity, I will keep $15 of the deposit off the bat, which covers you for a week of use. Apologies if this wasn't clear upfront, but as I said, shipping from me-to-you comes out of that. While I'm a usually a charitable guy, I'd rather not pay out of my pocket to loan my tool out

Anyone else, please feel free to sign up for next dibs once it's back from Lor's place.

i do have one question. what about paypal fees? are we going to send money as gift or regular paypal? i think it's fair if i send money to you as a gift, and then i will be charged the paypal fee. and then when you send me the remaining balance, also send as a gift and you pay the fee this time. that way the money that ends up in our accounts will be exact amounts, not minus paypal 3% etc. i dunno let me know what you think.

Sounds fair to me. Thanks for pointing that one out, I keep forgetting about the fees for some transactions.

That said, I if you pay from a bank account or your Paypal balance (instead of a credit card) there isn't a fee for gifts, etc. Just checked Paypal and that seems to be the case.

update bump. borrowed the AFR gauge for a week. install was about 5 mins for the gauge itself. very simple to use and found out that my jetting was within the range for safe power @ WOT 12.5-13. i was satisfied with readings at other rpm's and throttle positions. didn't feel like messing around with my carbs too much, so i promptly returned it. got my refund from Paul as promised in a timely manner. great guy and kind of him to loan out his equipment.

That I do, and it's still available. Will PM

Also, just ordered a 4-pack of stainless steel exhaust bungs for anyone that wants them. Will sell them at-cost with the rental if anyone wants.

what should my afr be while idleing?
everything seems pretty good, but at idle i'm sitting in the 17-18 range.
i was looking at this,

Quote:
Air/Fuel Ratio Limits
6.0:1 Rich run limit
9.0:1 Low power, black smoke
11.5:1 Rich best torque at WOT
12.5:1 Safe best power at WOT
13.2:1 Lean best torque at WOT
14.7:1 Chemically ideal
15.5:1 Lean light load, part throttle
16.2:1 Best economy, part throttle
18-22:1 Lean run limit

I'd say you're a good bit lean at idle, probably a good idea to richen it a bit. Beware though, the idle circuit will likely affect the rest of them some. You've got a bit more flex with idle since you're not under load on the engine, so I'd definitely be willing to deviate from ideal numbers (~13.5) if it feels better a little off ideal.

If you've got the engine under load and you're turning those numbers, that's a serious problem.

Thanks much Paul for letting me use this great setup. The rental system worked perfect. I was able to record values on both the kits - Dynojet and FactoryPro. I was also able to make necessary jetting changes and verify them on the meter .... one of the days being an open trackday worked to my favor.

I just returned your unit today. Hope to rent this again for another bike. You should definitely talk to Alex and post this as a service. The title of the thread is bit intriguing.

I got the unit in the mail late yesterday and just sent your refund, minus the rental fee and cost of a bettery tender pigtail. Thanks for taking care of my tool Ahbijit, glad it worked out well for you too!

The unit is once again available for borrow/rental.

I have picked up a couple of battery tender pigtails for those of you that don't have one on your bike yet and would like to use, or even keep one. They cost me $6.35 each (with shipping), that's what I'll charge you to keep one. This cost may change if this happens a lot, but I aim for it to stay what costs me to get them. Also picked up some better stainless exhaust bungs from AEM, which I will provide to you, again for what they cost me ($14.90).

Due to shipping costs, I'm going to have to 'up' the first week's rental cost to $20. While I'm not in this venture to make money, I do need to get a little from it to cover the eventual breakdown of the unit, and shipping is generally around $10-15 for me.

As such, here's the updated "TOS" (suggestions/loophole plugging welcome, via PM please). In short, this is a good faith contract, not a legal document. I'm just trying to tell ya the process, what you should expect from me and a general idea of what I expect from you, the person borrowing my tool.

I will return the remainder of the deposit to you when I receive the UEGO back and have a chance to check it over for any excessive damage. I don't doubt you'd take good care of it, but that's for my own protection. If I think I can fix it, I will attempt that before docking your deposit for a replacement part, but damage may still result in a deduction.

By default, I will put the following things in the box:
Manual
AEM UEGO display/computer pod (power wiring is already attached)
O2/Lambda sensor

Two items will be needed in addition to what I'll automatically include in the box:
1) An O2 sensor bung will need to be installed in your exhaust header (and you'll want a plug bolt to fill the bung opening when you're done). I have stainless steel bungs from AEM that I'm happy to supply for your use, at a cost of $14.90 (my purchase & shipping cost from AEM) deducted fom your 'rental' fee.

2) You'll also need a fused battery-tender type bung (SAE) that hooks to the battery for power. Again, I can include one for temporary use or for you to keep. If you keep it, I'll dock the pigtail's cost ($6.35 for the current batch). If you just want to borrow one, it'll be an extra $1/week.

One important note: The battery tender pigtail is NOT attached to a relay by default, so you need to remember to unplug the AEM UEGO unit when your bike's not on, or you will eventually drain your battery.
The "Stock photos" link in the OP is dead because AEM re-organizied their site, so here's another and a link to the manufacturer's new site

received the balance money back. You practically rented me the unit for FREE. 20$ / week rental sounds very very fair.

This was one of the best tool exchange/rental programs i have experienced in several years. I hope to rent this unit from you again for another bike.

Thank You very much !! :thumbup

Sweet. I've just finally gotten unpacked at my new place and I'm done with major travel for the summer (I think) so anytime works for me.

I rented the 2nd time. Test results were successful. Really, Paul is not making any money (he pays for the shipping). This time, i decided to drop in a few extra bucks for his service. Thank You

Well I wish I had known about this before I had bought one! But it sounds like a good idea so I'll be starting my own renting business and undercutting you

So, I probably should've done this sooner but

The unit is available and ready to send out when/if someone wants to borrow it.
Thanks for taking care of the unit, all you past 'customers'.

Jiggles, you're welcome to undercut, but I think you'll be paying people to borrow your tool
