Faired vs Unfaired Performance

I've got a pregen track bike I am putting together and I'm looking at pulling the fairings for weight reduction. Does anyone have any idea what the reduction in top speed looks like with an unfaired pregen? How do you all run your pregen track bikes?

I have exactly zero data to back this up, but I think the weight reduction will be far outdone by the increase in drag coefficient.

Idk about the need of the tail, but the rest, I think, would help.

It'll be faster with the fairings on. I can only get my naked 250 up to 97ish mph (indicated) and I feel I should be able to squeeze a little more out. I'm 150lbs.

The fairings create a better air stream, less drag. Other wise all the open gaps without the fairings just add to the increase in drag.

My comparison it's like swiss cheese lol.

at 100 mph the fairings help. when i took mine of my bike i could tell the difference. and getting over 100 is next to impossible with out a strong tail wind with out fairings. before i was doing 102-103 ish with no to little wind with fairings . according to my trail tech speedo

The effects of wind drag are substantial at higher speeds. The added aero benefits the fairings give outweigh the negatives from their weight. The key to a quick lap time on a 250 is getting your speed up and carrying that speed. With so little power, full faired 250's will pull on you at corner exit while you're fighting wind + weight, while their not fighting the wind as much.

Having seen a number of pregens on the track though, it aint really gunna matter much for 75% of the track asside of the straights. Lemme ask you this... how many turkey pans have you see out on the grid? I am sure the aero of a turkey pan aint comparable to the proper lower.

Good stuff, fairings stay. Thanks all! Guess I'd better get my hands on a full muzzy.
