Would you ever ride on the back of a motorcycle?

I can't think of time or situation where I would willingly ride on the back of a motorcycle.

What about you!?

I genderized it because I think there will be a significant difference in responses between Ninjas and Ninjettes

Edito: I should have specified that this is meant just in a casual way. For example, your friend calls you up and says hey, want to go for a ride on the back of my bike?

If you received that call right now, would you take them up on their offer or take your own bike (if you have one)/not go

It would have to be a female driver or else I would look homo.

and I'd have to trust her.

That's basically it I guess.

So to answer your question; no :P

Of course. I'd prefer to be riding my own, naturally, but if it came down to being a passenger or not riding, I'd be a passenger (and have, in the past).

The weirdest time I rode passenger though was when Peter's bike broke down in the ass middle of nowhere and he rode my bike with me on the back for about 50 miles to our friends' house. The bike was in no way set up for a 6'4" rider nor a pillion (there weren't even passenger foot pegs).

Heck no! Sure riding with another guy would be gay, but that is not why I wouldn't do it. It would be too SCARY!

I actually had an opportunity to ride on the back of an early CBR in college with a frat brother, but didn't do it because I was too 'ffraidy-pants.... ironic.

in all seriousness i feel the same way. let's be realistic - motorcycles are dangerous enough. there's no getting around that. I wouldn't want to get on one if i wasn't in control.

on the flip side, i would be very hesitant to give anyone a ride either, because it would be my fault if we crashed.

Yup. There is a VERY short list of people I would trust to ride me around... actually there might be one on the list, but I should rethink that.

I took a 2-up ride with Jason Pridmore during one of his STAR schools at Thunderhill. Scariest two laps of my life. Me <----- not a good pillion.

I'd get on the back if the driver was female.

I'd also get on the back in a life or death situation with the driver being male. ie) I need to get to a hospital now and I can either die here or get driven to the hospital. But that's a pretty serious circumstance though.

I have ridden on the back, but I don't much care for the sensation of being up on two wheels but having no control over what the bike's doing.

I'll ride back there with a very experienced rider if I need to get somewhere and there are no other options. Just for a pleasure ride? No.

^^This exactly (Only substitute Jason Pridmore with Steve Rapp and Thunderhill with Chuckwalla). That was my first and only time riding passenger (And on a bike >250ccs), and it's a dramatically different sensation from being in control. It's a great learning experience getting to feel how someone extremely skilled moves, brakes, and accelerates (And holy hell some of those lean angles), but even though I trusted him not to crash, that was at least rollercoaster level of terrifying for me. I had felt like I had run a marathon while being chased by a madman with a chainsaw after those two laps -_-

But that I did purely for educational purposes, as it was a noteworthy part of the school. I would never ride passenger for fun.

If I needed a ride from point A to point B, and one of my buddies with a bike was all that was available, then yes I would. It's just another vehicle to get me there.

That being said, I HAVE been on back of my buddy's CBR600F3 before he would let me pilot it for the summer. Scared the heck out of me until I relaxed a bit and just went with the bike and remembered to look through my turns like when I'm on my bike. It also felt incredibly weird not having handle bars and trying not to slide off... but after that, it was great!! and honestly, I got a firsthand experience of what my girlfriend and passengers have to deal with, so it helped me realize what advice I should be giving to my passengers about looking in turns and what to hold onto and such.

Well, my brother is coming down for Thanksgiving, and he doesn't have a license, so he'll have to ride on the back when we go anywhere.

As long as you trust the person, I don't see what is up with this whole homo thing about riding as passenger on a bike. Do you get into the passenger seat of your buddies car and think it's homo that two guys are together in a car too?

I actually started by riding on back of my husband's (then) Ninja 250. I rode on back 5 months before deciding I wanted to ride my own. I've been on back of his CBR 600 one time since I started riding. So yea, I would ride on back, but I usually don't.

Almost certainly not, but you really need to specify the car.

But in response to some of the thoughts in this thread, I think that when given the option of walking when a bike breaks down hours from home, people will gladly accept any form of transportation to get them where they need to be. Coming back from Death Valley a few years ago, a friend torched both of his rims only a few miles from the Valley on the way back home, and I had to ferry him 500+ miles back to home base. That said, it would have been much more challenging and uncomfortable on any sportbike, including the ninjette, compared to the RT I was on for that trip.

Try to keep in mind that some people can turn ANYTHING into a sexual encounter. One guy sitting or standing behind another guy is automatically gay to someone who thinks of nothing but sex 24/7.

As a kid I had ridden as a passenger a few times, but I'd never do it now. I only feel comfortable riding in the car with 3 different people, so I can't even imagine how I'd react as a passenger on something much more dangerous.

No because you have your own space. But i dont think riding 2up with a guy makes you homo unless you make it hahaha I have to admit i would find it really akward like any straight man would find it.

I'd happily ride pillion as long as I had all my gear on and the rider was experienced, skilled and sensible.

So far, your theory about gender differences is holding true.

On account of the fact you can only choose one option, I presumed that the gender in brackets refers to your own gender... so really there are only 2 options for each person.

I have been a passenger behind both male and female riders. Not at the same time obviously.

I imagine most guys would not choose to be a passenger with a female rider.

I'd rather be squeezing a girl than a guy.

Just a thought.... If one of my straight friends asked to ride on the back of my bike, I'd probably call him a and say no . But if one of my gay friends asked to ride on the back of my bike, I'd probably let him I think it would be less awkward than with a straight guy.

In any case I prefer girls on the back

MOTM - Feb '12
I have great memories of riding on the back of my dad's bike growing up. Probably why I ride now. He rides a big cruiser now and I wouldn't hesitate jumping on the back for a quick ride to the store or something. Good memories and all that. Also would ride the back of a track bike with a pro riding, if it was part of track training. Would be interesting to view a pro's track riding from on the bike.

But outside of Dad or for targeted track training? Never.

This post brings to mind one of my favorites from our Ridiculous Gear Thread. Buddy handles. (Also useful for bedroom play.)

Depends on where I am. A lot of this is a cultural perception. In Western countries and maybe especially in North America, it's not so "macho" to see two dudes on a bike. Go to countries like India or Asian countries where motorcycles and scooters are more primary modes of transportation and the perception is obviously very different.

I'm a man no matter where I sit. So, yes. If I needed to get somewhere, and had to ride on the back of a bike behind male or female, I would ride on the back.

In theory yes.

I've never been on the back of one before, even just sitting. We got our licenses and bikes together this year and having 2 bikes and limited experience, it doesn't make much sense.

I like driving too and feel weird as a passenger in most cars and get car sick....maybe I'm just not a passenger kind of person.

Aside of personal preference there is one other thing that needs to be considered in this thread.

There may come a time in your travels where it's not gunna be much of a choice to ride as passenger or carry a passenger. Whatever the situation (normally bad) it just might come in handy. Two more skills that should be developed just like all the rest.

I think if the choice is between being eaten by wolves and riding on the back of a motorcycle, everyone here would choose the latter
