Hello from Louisiana
Well my name is Michael and I am looking into riding motorcycles. I have always rode dirtbikes as I was younger. My brother had a honda 80 and I used milk crates on each a side to sit on it. I then got a handa 80 when I was a bit older and rode that for a while. After a while I ended up on a KTM 150SX but with being 5.4' I was not able stand on it very much and ended up selling it to help pay for my school and for a car. I now am 16 and am about to take the motorcycle safety course with my state police department because it waivers the test at the DMV which MSF does not here. As of now I am only 5.5' and was looking at ninja 300 but I also need to think of gear and insurance which my parents have agreed not to pay for which I'm okay with. I think that you need to be really mature and respectful to the motorcycle and which better way to respect what you have than pay for everything yourself. I'm currently trying to decide if I should get the ninja 250 for 2500 or less or pay a good bit more for the ninja 300. I think I may get the ninja 250 and get the ninja 300 later on but sadly I am in love with the way the ninja 300 looks over 250 but don't get me wrong the 250 still is great looking above 07 model.
Sorry for all the mistakes it's very late and I did not re-read this Also I was looking to get some gear and I'm a but small only a little under 5.5' and weight in at 120 lbs. EDIT: I think I will be going with the ninja 250 for now just to get into motorcycles and something that would be forgiving of me. But from the KTM I had I know not to slip the clutch or hit the throttle too hard. |

Thank you for the links and I do agree that one should not skimp on gear, but I am also having a hard time talking to my parents about allowing me and surely I understand the risk and they are only trying to protect me. I just need a way to show them that I will be a respectful rider and see if they would allow me. They already allowed me to take the course with the LSP in March though I don't think the bike part is fully okay.

Well the class is the first step in the journey, gear should be second, bike third.
You check the how to talk my parents into Leting me get a bike thread? Some parents, friends, family members will never get over worrying about you, it's kind of a good thing. My dad told me I couldn't have a bike till the day he realized I had one, then he just told me to be careful. Buy decent gear, do your homework, buy the best you can really afford. There are cheaper options that are plenty good, and expensive options that you mostly pay for the name on.

I have been looking on cycle gear and the only problem I would see is when going to school and taking off and storing all of that gear while still riding with my school bag. I might just carry the gear to my locker and then put it on. I'm glad that you think I'm taking this on the right way, I was hoping not to end up as another stupid teenage accident static. Most people my age get bikes for the wrong reasons mostly to look cool and end up showing off. I just love motorcycle and they are on of my passions, but What would be the point of getting really hurt for one person to smile at you showing off, people like that just make me mad.

I have been looking at gear all class today and I just want to start by buying some boots and gloves, but I am not sure which ones to get As for helmet as long as it is DOT and EMC? cleared It will be okay for me. Any recommendations on gloves that are under $50 and maybe some boots that are okay to start with till I get some more money.

The best thing you can do first is go try on the gear. you might be able to find some decent gloves on a close out at www.sportbiketrackgear.com or www.motorcyclecloseouts.com.

That jacket isn't a motorcycle jacket? It's an under jersey(according to revzilla). And the reviews are from people who use it as a dirtbike jersey.

I see that but it also has great protection and I have a jacket to wear over it but if it is hot like it is everyday here then I might just wear that. But I know people who use it for sports bike riding and they do like when they feel.
