Today I bought my wife her 1st bike. Its an 01 ZZr 250 (CDN model with alloy frame) Will the Area-P exhaust fit on her bike? The stock mufflers are both marked up and she'd like to clean up the bike'sappearance. The weight loss would be a bonus. As for noise she'd like it quiet so the long muffler is in order.

I'm not sure if it will fit the ZZR250 but if you send Kerry Bryant an email he will promptly give you an answer.

full exhaust melting plastic
Hi,
I bought an '06 ninja 250 used. The previous owner installed the area p full exhaust system and used heat tape around the pipes. The pipes are close to the lower fairing and have started to melt it. Has anyone experienced this problem and have any recommendations for fixing it? Pics are attached. #2 shows the inside of the lower fairing and how the pipe rests on it. #3 shows how the tubes were damaged when they came in contact with the pipe (this happened before I bought the bike) I believe the fairing melting just happened yesterday when I was out riding for about an hour non-stop. The tube melting was there when I bought it (I didn't notice this until they delivered the bike after I bought it) so I think it may have happened before the heat tape was applied. Perhaps the heat tape is old and I should replace it along with the heat shield on the fairing? Or should the pipe not even be this close to the fairing? Thanks! Jessica |

Jessica,
The system was not installed correctly and should not touch the fairing or hoses. It is very clearly noted in the installation instructions on how to adjust it and/or to check clearances before running. It should never be run and/or operated if touching any fairing parts or hoses. Simply loosen everything up and re-adjust it to gain the clearance needed. Same goes for the hoses you have pictured, simply move and/or secure them out-of-the-way. Also, please note that we highly recommend that you do not use heat wrap tape on the system. These wraps retain both heat and mositure that will shorten the lifespan of the system by not allowing it to cool down and externally dry out properly. Stainless steel may become brittle over time with header wrap. |

Thanks for the quick response. I'll grab a friend and see if I can adjust the position of the exhaust system. Is there a way I can get the instructions for the exhaust since they didn't come with the bike?

Sorry if I missed this info somewhere else but;
How much of a drop in MPG have people seen with the Area-P system? Can it be installed without re-jetting? In the planning stages of a high MPG bike and 17lbs worth of weight drop is alluring. Thanks Bob |

Hey bob, I'm not sure about the mpg drop, but thats what I was thinking as well, if its going to increase fuel consumption then the 17lbs weight reduction should couteract that. I went ahead and ordered an exhaust when the group buy was going on. Hopefully It wont drop much, maybe 2-3 mpg. I'm averaging 65 right now and hate to see that drop.

I thought it was more than a 17 pound weight loss.
The stock exhaust is really heavy so you save some there when you replace it with the Area P. Then you have to remove the center stand which weighs a pretty good bit. I didn't bother to weigh the old exhaust + center stand against the new Area P when I installed it but I'm thinking the total is much more than 17 pounds. Is your 17 pound weight savings only taking the exhaust swap into account? |

Stock exhaust weighs about 19lbs. Center stand weighs 3 or 4 lbs in my estimation.

Your only choice is a new/used muzzy or a used area p, which I haven't seen anywhere online. |
