I am finally a bike owner!
What's up everyone? My name is Anthony Yow. I'm 28 and I've been in love with bikes for a long time but never bought one until now. I scooped up a pretty rough 2004 Ninja 250 with 14K miles for pretty cheap. It runs but won't idle without holding the throttle up a little. I started looking at it and saw some relatively large chunks of rust in the bottom edges of the tank. That's my first order of business. The guy I bought it from said his friend thinks it is a bad valve but it wasn't tapping and there was no smoke so.. I dunno.Anyway, I'm looking forward to being a member here and I will leave you with a picture of my heap.

I bet they let it set with old gas in it. Once you start it up it sucks some of the hard gas in to the jets clogging them. Id do a valve clearance cheek a carb sync and pull the jets and clean them out. Id also change the oil and filter if they let it get this bad id be willing to bet they did not do other stuff like the chain slack. also look at the back sprocket if it looks bent or bent chip teeth id get a new front and back sprocket.

Here is an updated photo. The body work is done and I thought the engine work was done but it won't start. I've rebuilt the carbs, adjusted the valves and installed new plugs, filter and tank but it just won't work. I know it's getting spark and it's turning over. Any ideas?

Bike is taking a nice shape! I think you might think about trimming some of the front fender to match the "minimalist" lines you have kickin. These are the kind of bike designs that call for a frame of a different color. I went with a gray frame.
As far as your starting problem; the carb bowls filling?

The carb bowls are filling because when I took it off before to clean it, they were full of gas. What would stop the fuel between the bowls and the cylinders? I cleaned the four jets all the way out. They were pretty stopped up but it still won't do anything. It almost started when I sprayed some starting fluid into the air box past the filter but then wouldn't do anything after that one rumble.
