A Slip of the Rear...
So I was on my way to Walmart during lunch and I took a hard right turn at low speed. Well about midway through the turn my rear tire had a bit of a slip.
![]() I'm pretty comfortable with bikes, so I immediately corrected, and I didn't freak out or anything, but I did have a moment where I was thinking "What if I lost it?" ![]() So now I'm kinda excited in one way, because I somehow pushed my limits, but a little put off because I'm not entirely sure what I did wrong. I know the tires weren't warm, I was leaned over pretty good, maybe my body position was bad. ![]() Just wanted to share this story and maybe see what you all had to say! ![]() |

The other thing that can contribute to the rear spinning up:
fine gravel on the asphalt water oil slick tar snakes You did right. Just stay calm and correct for it. Just like doing doughnuts in a pickup truck or doing kid skids on a bicycle. |

![]() ![]() ![]() It is the street, there are no healthy limits to find there. The goal is to go from point A to B without "A Slip of the Rear." Nothing good happens after that riding error. Key things for every corner: Look: for traffic, road conditions, pedestrians. Choose a proper entry speed: enter slow, leave fast. Select your line: according to traffic and road conditions (oil tracks, white markings, surface defects, sand). Open the throttle: sooner than later and don't close it again (never downshift). Practice emergency stops during turns in your spare time and away from traffic. ![]()

My 6 year old son has been racing this year, just a few times on a PW 50 and the weather was always warm. The last race it was considerably cooler and so I warned him to take a few laps to warm up the tires (but the kids is only 6!) Sure enough, he got to turn #4 and lowsided. When I got to him (mom's in leathers can jump fences and run really fast when their son's crash by the way ![]() He was standing there looking at the bike in disbelief and he said, "mama, I didn't even do anything wrong, the bike just whoosed out from under me like it was on ice or something." I said, "that kiddo, was a cold tire crash." He didn't do it again. Lesson learned. Ride safe out there!

![]() Hahhahaha. Ya. Hard to see your little guy crash but a good learning experience for him as well! You can't always explain cold tires to people, they have to feel what it's like sometimes. ![]()
