Ex-250 owner thinking about going back.
Hi name is James. I owned an 06 250 that I bought new in June 06.
I rode the bike as a commuter for two years, riding year round in Virginia. 25*F was my limit The most fun I had on it was in Deals Gap the week before I sold it. Sold for $2200 with 30,624 miles. So after selling it and a 78 KZ1000, I bought a 97 GSXR600 for track use. Then I wanted to ride it on the street so I made it street legal. I am here because I do like the 250 and am wanting another, just waiting to see what 2010 will bring, interested to see if the euro FI 250 comes to America. |

welcome
Is it tough to go from a 600 to a 250 I wonder? My Ninja is a great bike and a lot of fun for commuting and riding.. but if I were used to a 600 I think I'd miss the passing power on parkways and such..

Thanks for the welcomes.
Going back to a 250 for commuting really would be for the fun factor of riding, and the cheaper upkeep. The lack of power compared to a 600 does not matter to me. The 250 is very capable in the right hands. The 600 is staying on as a track bike, and I also have a spare SRAD frame that will be built up with a 750 into a naked bike. BlackRain is a nickname from the guys I used to work with. Im asian so they call me Black Rain as in the movie. All in good fun though, of course. Another pic of the KZ |

I'd suggest a 500. Similar package to the 250, but closer to the power you are used to.
I hate to be a downer, but fuel injection isn't going to do anything but make the bike harder to work on, give you slightly better gas mileage, and maybe 1 extra horsepower. I asked my mechanic about doing some engine work to my 250 and his bottom line thought is that no matter what you do to the bike, the single most limiting factor is the displacement. I rode dirt bikes for 10 years before getting my 250, and I'm honestly starting to feel the limits of the power after just 600 miles. I've got the full racing muzzy exhaust, K&N filter, full synthetic oil (which does make a difference). I guess I'm just trying to say that if you want a 250 for nostalgia sake, get one. I love mine, but I'm more than ready to move up. Suzuki in particular has some great 650 VTwins. |
