Wiring for taillights

Hey everyone! It's the wonderful time of the year when all the snow is gone and I can start riding. I am looking to put an aftermarket taillight on my 2005 250. Anyone have any suggestions on lights? Also, I need to know what wires on the bike mean what? Like what wire for taillight is for negative, running lights, and brake (positive) thanks!

Red wire is the running light, black/red wire is the brake light, and black/yellow wire is ground.

I just got a cheap generic universal taillight off of eBay. Doesn't have to be anything too special.

I gotta ask why you want to change the tail light? Doing a project hopefully?

Awesome! Thanks for the info. Do you have any pictures of your taillight?

consider an upgrade to LED integrated tail/sequential turn signal unit

seller autodynamic123 on ebay lists for '08-'12 250, you'd have to explore size options. Research their "store", he's got dimensions, pics and vids up, too.

As there was no listing for my old Duc...after researching size options...I updated my 80's design, old single 1157 bulb tail light with a sequential LED unit from a CBR600

Wow, what a difference. Can actually SEE the tail light now in the daylight, it was horribly outdated....a major safety improvement...looks cool too. Fellow riders behind me have commented on its vastly improved visibility and LOVE the sequential turn sigs.

This is the best pic I have currently. I might get a bigger taillight at some point, but this one works ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
