How many racers have cut off the 2008+ kickstand mount?

I'm reading that some racers have done this for clearance. I use a lot of lean angle at the track, but I hate to cut off the mount because i'm always considering when I sell the bike, the buyer may want to put the bike back on the street.

I have not, but there are a few racers here who have cut every uneeded tab/mount off their bikes in the name of weight savings.

I cut mine off...it does hang down a bit. in a good place to lighten the back. last place I wanna take load off the rear wheel is in a corner.

figure if/when i sell it, it will go to a racer. no way i'm going to put all the street crap back on.

Same here. Kickstand mount is gone on mine as well.

I don't even have most of the street stuff anymore.

Got the same concern on the mount touching down at the track. Think I am going to grind it off but it shouldn't be too tough to weld back on if I want.

I have not yet removed the kickstand and mount but will as soon as I understand how to to it properly. Just searched the forum and online for a how-to but came up empty. Could anyone w/experience doing this please post create a new thread or wiki for how to disable the killswitch in the kickstand and a good way to cut off the mount? If here is already a good writeup out there that I missed a link in this thread would be helpful.

thanks

i hacked ours off as per the rules(CRA) and smoothed with a grinder....along with alot of other tabs. as far as the switch goes, just made a little jumper wire where the switch plugged into and done!

Unless someone has a better idea I plan to disable the kickstand switch by cutting and soldering together the two switch wires just before the wiring harness, meaning leave the stock wiring harness connector intact. I plan to use a dremel to cut the mount.

I haven't really looked at the mount that closely. Would a hacksaw be a better choice?

Just get a cheap angle grinder...I'm sure one from Harbor Freight would work fine. I'm gonna use one to remove my bracket.

Your bike will be worth a lot less to a potential buyer if you drag that kickstand mount and shitwreck it.

Good point!

(I'm not race-prepping my bike btw... just curious about this stuff.)

I highly recommend removing/grinding/cutting the kickstand mount off especially if the track you ride on has corner elevation changes. Last thing you want is for mount to pivot into the track and cause you to crash which has happened to a few racers I know.

Chop it off, and - if only for some peace of mind - click that preload all the way up. This bike needs every mm of ride height it can get!

So you raise the bike higher off the ground? Is that so that you can lean further?

I used a drill with a cut-off wheel attachement from Home Depot. Pretty cheap solution also.

Cut it.... It's gotta go. You'll def want something more than a dremel!!!! That mount is fairly stout.

Embarrassed to say that I can't even get the kickstand leg off of the mount! The 17mm bolt holding it on is on steroids - anyone else have problems getting this bolt off without help from a friend to help hold the retaining nut on the other side? Suggestions?

Hacksaw works fine and save the piece to weld back on if needed. Simple.

I've always been told to heat up the bolt(s) a little. I'll be removing it this weekend too - let me know how it goes.

I'd like to cut my mount bracket off for track days, but my 250 is also used mostly for street use at the moment. an easy to remove kickstand would be awesome, if there was one...

Could someone please post a close up picture of exactly where you cut off the mount?
Also, if someone has more detailed info on how to deal with the electrical running from the kickstand to the starter that would be great. - tks,

for the wires, all you need to do is make the 2 wires contact each other. cut them off, splice them together, throw some solder on there, and heat shrink it or electrical tape. you could also use a jumper or some electrical splicing connector. but make sure whatever you choose, it is secure. if those wires come apart when you're on the track, your engine's turning off!

1) It doesn't stick out to the side to reduce lean angle and endanger the rider
2) Race rules require a lower fairing that can hold two quarts of oil

I cut mine off too. I heard too many stories about the 250s crashing on track that i decided it had to go. However, i am having a problem with the newly exposed bare metal rusting. Has anyone else had this? it looks from peoples pics that they painted/coated it with something... i may need to do that.
