Front and rear brake pads for $11?
Hitting Amazon for some misc parts and came across the following:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005NFITT6/...I1TORLGN7NL709 Anyone have any reviews on Kevlar brake pads? $11 with shipping for front and rear pads sounds too good to be true, and I understand these are brakes, the main safety item on the bike, and its never good to cheap on the safety items, but I'm close to needing pads front and rear, and if these are ok, then I'll spring for it. Riding style, basically commuter on the highway. Don't get too crazy, don't do any track, don't do any twisties really, just enjoy riding around and occasionally taking long road between point A and B. Thanks~

Not a bad set of pads that last a fair amount of time but they're organic pads so they don't have the bite the sintered pads do. They're a great pad for winter so you don't risk locking up the brakes as easily as you would with a good set of pads during the summer.
I got a set last winter that lasted around 6 months, a good pad that does what you need it to do on a budget. |

Did some research on it, ceramic vs Kevlar...at $11 I couldn't pass. Worst I can do is try them and not like it. Again, I have a very laid back riding style, if these don't work out, I'll go for something sintered, ceramic.

Pads showed up today. Haven't torn bike down yet as the Ohio weather is not cooperating....quick question though for those of you who have done brakes before. Are the pads the same size front and back? On mobile right now, can't post a pic, but I got two packets, each with two pads, and it seems they're hoth the same size, same mfr part number too. Thanks.

Good to know. Was hesitant to tear bike down to be disappointed by my 'so far' decent find. Thanks for reply. Will update when I get the pads on and a few miles on them.

Do yourself a huge favor and clean the caliper pistons before installing the new pads as they get really nasty with crud built up in there. Just carefully pump the brakes just a bit to expose the pistons a bit to clean metal and then use some emory cloth and clean em up. Failure to clean them will result in a sticking caliper which is something you do not want to have happen.

Will plan to do that and more. Clean everything down with brake cleaner, check the piston boot for good condition, hose, etc. I just put Yoshi rear set brackets on, so I also need to trim the hose from reservoir to pedal. Thanks for bringing it up.

Logged around 100 miles on these brakes so far and I'm rather impressed for the $11 that they cost, but they are prob not ideal for track riding, unless you use them for one session. For my riding style, commuting, putting around town and the likes, they work well for that. I have always trained myself in riding to use both brakes as a balance in normal conditions, and these compliment that. Overall, I'm satisfied with them.

At least 100 miles....I generally do 3-4k miles per riding season, depending on weather. If I get two seasons out of them, I will consider that extreme value for the price.
