i like the available colors, but why no red or solid green? black+red would make an awesome two tone as well

Edit: The MSRP is $4,799 then? I think then realistically it woul cost about $5,300-5.5k to get it out the door here in Illinois.

I bet that new muffler accounts for some of the extra weight... it's HUGE.

[sportrider - latest stories] - 2013 Kawasaki ZX-6R and Ninja 300 revealed

2013 Kawasaki ZX-6R and Ninja 300 revealed

Team Green’s middleweight goes back up to the 636cc displacement, while the 250 grows to a 300; both available in ABS versionsIn a somewhat surprise move, Kawasaki has chosen to once again disregard conventional displacement categories, except this time with the debut of the new 2013 ZX-6R and its smaller Ninja 300 brother. The new ZX-6R’s engine grows to a 636cc displacement, which harkens back to 2003-2006 ZX-6R edition that had the same size powerplant, while the venerable Ninja 250’s engine has been enlarged to 296cc from its previous 249cc iteration. Both bikes feature numerous chassis and styling upgrades in addition to the larger and more powerful engines. Kawasaki has been on a roll lately with regards to sportbike market share in the U.S. (it has occupied the number one slot the past few years), and it’s clear the company is looking to maintain that growth with the introduction of the latest Ninjas.

I will sit on one when it arrives at my local dealer.. but I can't imagine buying it. Any relevance to a F.C.C clutch? Not really sure what that is as compared to what's already on my 2012 ninja.

people are saying 380 lbs is a lot for this but i don't know why

only a tad over 5 lbs heavier than the ninja 250, but i guess 5 lbs is 5 lbs.

Uh, I doubt it.

I'm betting on the ABS being the extra weight. We don't know if that weight spec is for the ABS model or the non-ABS model, and the ABS model is about 4-5 lbs more than the non-ABS model. For all we know, that weight spec on the site might be for the ABS model. Or not. Idk.

It's all just speculation i suppose. But I figured the curb weight listed would be the main model, and the ABS the optional model.

According to Kawasaki, there is only 1 lb difference between the new 250R and 300. It is likely due to the beefier gears and balance shaft. Regardless, it's negligible.

Hmmmm, I think it's time for a demo day for chone this summer.

I could go for a 300 with dual bi-xenon headlights, Pirelli DR2's and clip-ons/rearsets. That would bring it up to/better than par with my bike, and would be quieter.

It's likely just a pipe dream for now though. I want a new road bike, and I think my insurance would be a little higher on a brand spanking new bike that is also larger displacement.

Another observation is that they do mention an ABS version in those videos and they show the same Lime Green/Black special edition with ABS in the gallery. I hope that doesn't mean that it will be the only color they offer in ABS. I would be so pissed since that is my least favorite color.

Yep -- no more 250 except in some parts of Asia where they'll keep it a 250 (they won't get the 300)

Think the price of the 250 will drop now that the 300 is out?

I'm wondering if it'll budge if they won't be making 250's anymore

At idle it would but accelerating at higher revs it may sound a little better. But yeah, I agree, it's mostly likely the same - especially considering the 650 sounds basically the same. That's just the sound of parallel twins I suppose.

You are wasting your money.

You need to understand what octane means. Higher octane fuel is less prone to detonation -- i.e. it is HARDER, not easier, to get to burn.

Here's the junior-high version, over simplified but it makes the point:

- When you compress air it heats up.

- If you compress it a whole lot it heats up a whole lot. The more and faster you compress, the hotter it gets. This is how diesel engines work. They don't have spark plugs. They also have huge compression ratios. (More compression, more heat).

- If you put fuel that's easy to ignite into a high-compression engine, it could ignite before you want it to. Why? See above. This is called detonation, or ping, or knock. It is a Bad Thing and can damage your engine.

- High horsepower engines often make their power (in part) through higher compression. More fuel/air in the cylinder, more horsepower. So they need high-octane (harder to ignite) fuel. At low revs it doesn't make a difference, but at high revs it does. (Repeat after me: the more/faster you compress air, the hotter it gets.)

- A low-compression engine is designed for low-octane fuel. It never compresses the charge enough to cause detonation.

- So the extra money you're spending is WASTED. High-octane gas doesn't have "more power" or any such nonsense. It is simply harder to ignite, so therefore suited for (and required by) high-compression engines.

Look at the bottom left of those pages. There is a 1 kg difference between each model respectively. So 1-2 lbs difference.

Just went in and put my money down for mine finally now that the MSRP is available. Looks like 5700ish out the door. I ordered the green one and should arrive at the earliest next month or latest end of Nov since this dealer is one of the biggest sellers.

However in America, I don't think anyone (besides me) would consider a 400, they'd jump straight to the 600/650s
I was looking for a 400 when I was shopping for a bike and the salesman looked at me weird and said there was no such thing. I didn't realize I was looking at the Kawi UK site when I looked online.

I just am not understanding the change from a 250 to a 300...is there a side by side comparison chart somewhere, to compare to the 2012?
