More power to you

the odds of an assault victim being shot were 4.5 times greater if he carried a gun. His odds of being killed were 4.2 times greater.

yeah thats because the majority of civilians with guns are ****ing stupid.

If more people carried and actually cared enough to get some proper training, those numbers would drop drastically.

Not only that, but if robbers knew the chances of their victim pulling a gun on them were higher they'd be much less likely to rob in the first place.

I didnt watch the full video but everyone is saying the guy didnt die, which is disappointing. Once he gets outta the hospital/jail, id bet money he'll go right back to stealing.

Same with bikes. Lots of scary stats out there about biking, so some people assume that it's intrisically as dangerous as that stats seem to imply. Fact is: there are tons of stupid bikers out there squiding out, smashing their bikes and their bodies to pieces. Because they and the more intelligent bikers are lumped into the same set of statistics it makes biking in general seem more dangerous than it has to be.

Edit: clarification: crashing doesn't mean your stupid. It happens to the best of us. Pulling a wheelie over the speed limit wearing nothing but flip flops, a back protector and a helmet that's hit the ground more times than a squirrel on acid does make you stupid.

I read that, since bike/car jacking is becoming a major problem in Brazil, the insurance companies are requiring riders/drivers to install specialist anti-theft devices:

Not really sure where you're trying to go with that.

difference is guns since their inception have been designed to kill. Its pretty ridiculous to compare motorcycles to firearms. People who have firearms yet refuse to have any proper training are of course going to flop in a real world situation.

@Aggrotech: you point out that those odds regarding assaults are skewed because so many gun owners are stupid. I just pointed out that there is a similar phenomenon with bikes. The stats regarding getting hurt on a motorcycle are skewed because so many riders... are stupid. That's it.

Once I had noticed that the friend didn't have a gun, I'd have knocked the first guy right the **** out just as he was trying to pick up the bike and I'd have gone for his weapon. I'll be damned to let two punks riding nuts to butts jack me, I don't care how dangerous.

Well personally I'll take my chances with the odds .. I agree to a point but a lot has to do with proper education and training.. I for one have been around guns my entire life been shooting and handling firearms for over 30 years.. I qualified as expert in every weapon I was handed when in the military even had higher scores than the instructors on the m16 and pistol.. Currently I compete in tactical 3 gun matches regularly ... I will never look foreward to the day I have to use my weapon in self defense.. But pitty the person who puts me in a situation where I do

While those statistics mentioned previously may be correct, people tend to carry guns more oftenly in more dangerous places. Just as houses with bars on their windows are more likely to be broken into than ones without. This is the downfall of statistics
