Advice while bike is torn apart

So I just finished removing my airbox to install pod filters and do some general maintenance / cleaning. My question is this: Is there anything else I should do or mod while my bike is torn down?

Rejet the carb.

Adjust the valves.

Clean the carbs- never hurts...
Check the spark plugs for any build up or (abnormal) discoloration

read about carb tuning and airflow changes effecting fuel ratio. chances are your bike isn't going to run well without changing jets after you remove the airbox.

The whole reason behind removing the air box was to make carb tuning easier. I have a new carb lot from Factory Pro sitting on the bench just waiting to be installed. I plan on doing an in depth cleaning of the carbs while I have them out.
Any of y'all have any recommendations regarding that?

This video will get your 80/20. There is another thread here titled "Secret Passages", find that and check other airways/pathways for blockages.

So I think I am going to push forward with adjusting the valves since the bike is about 1000 miles past the 7500 mile maintenance check. Any advice regarding the procedure? I'm am definitely mechanically inclined, but I've only adjusted valves once and that was on a scooter.

I think someone had a shim kit for sale in the marketplace pretty recently.

Instead of buying the entire shim kit, could I simply get the exact shims after checking the clearances?

kleen air delete if you haven't already.

You don't need a blockoff plate. Just go get a rubber cap from the hardware store

Well put the carbs back on after a very indepth cleaning with a new jet set up (40 pilot 110 main). Bike had zero issues starting up, but the minute you gave it some throttle it would die. Carbs are back off again with the stock 38 pilots in them. Plan on giving it another go this afternoon. Needles are set in the 3rd grove from the top currently. I've based my jet selection off of the jetting database.
