Never Take a Ninja to a Moped Party

Another crash vid. Sorry Chris.

Link to original page on YouTube.

From the ninja rider:

Quote:
Everyone survived the crash but the bikes took a beating.
Quote:
Oh yeah, I'm getting some real gear when I get better.
Quote:
[My bike] doesn't have much damage believe it or not. The frame sliders took most of the hit. Mechanically it's fine, just needs rear brake lever, blinker, new frame sliders, and some plastics.
What to learn from this...
* wear good gear
* don't target fixate (on the crashed bikes and riders in this instance). Always cast your focus and attention towards the thing you want; in this case, it's the piece of road to the left of the ricocheting mopeds... which leads nicely onto...
* leave a suitable distance between you and other vehicles... so you don't have to dodge ricocheting mopeds
* don't ride on the road with a swarm of crazy noobs!

* does it even need mentioning that you shouldn't undertake other riders in the same lane as you at twice the speed they're going... and without protective gear

Side note: those mopeds looked really fun!

Edit: this isn't me in the video. I found this video on youtube.

Since you looked for the good things, I will give you a pass on this one...

Did you notice there was a crash truck w/trailer following behind?

Thanks for the pass. Can I spend it on free riding instruction with you!

Didn't notice the crash truck. The driver was probably thinking... "profit!"

Watching the video again... that moped rider hit that tree pretty damn hard. That could have easily been really nasty.

Bad riding all around.

That's why you never ride with a pack of rookies!

3 wide into a corner is the most you can get... when you see them trying to go 5 wide.... best to just pull back and let them crash each other out.

The truck following is mandatory. Mopeds always break down. Unless they crash first. Sorry I love peds

Not me in the video.

Reading back my own post, I can see I've not made it that clear that I've posted someone elses vid.

If anyone here has a youtube account, maybe we can pull the rider into our Ninjette cult forum.

Maybe we can be a positive element in his -- hopefully long lasting -- riding career.

I feel a bit nervous riding near even one other rider for an extended period. I don't have much practise though.

I guess it's fine if you know the person/people you're riding with and you've established some safe riding conventions and behaviour.

I agree!

I have zero concern of this particular scenario ever happening to me. I just wouldn't put myself in that situation. Most of the crash videos I see make me feel much better about riding. Most of the crashes seem to happen to people who are making REALLY bad decisions.

I'm glad I made it through my first year of riding ok. That was probably the most dangerous part of my riding experience so far. Just because I lacked knowledge and experience. This forum has been a really positive influence on me though. Lots of good attitudes and great advice. I feel like this place breeds a good riding culture... a culture which some people really don't have anywhere else in there life. So many people have idiot friends, moronic neighbours and an ass-hole family. Add a motorcycle into the mix without some external sanity to temper them and it's a recipe for tragic disaster.

i've always thought other motos were the biggest danger when riding street on a moto. especially while splitting.

It's not really that much to do with the bike in this scenario... but... I almost totalled myself into the back of a van while trying to let a faster rider get in front of me. Since that event I've switched my focus even more towards: ride my own ride - not anyone elses. Next time someone comes up fast behind me while I'm splitting, they can wait. I'll move over in my own time and only if I feel comfortable doing it.

I have been in packs of scooters riding like that. Best part is leaving the bar. Then it's dark
