That's my Internet-land name so I don't pronounce it much at all, but yeah: I imagine it as ak-EE-ma like you said.

I took the name from a character in an animation called Titan AE. I'm not nearly as cool as she is though.

Yep, it's where that company started.

if it's japanese it would be pronounced with separate syllables for each kana... as in... ah-kee-mah. the kana would be (a)(ki)(ma) which i unfortunately can't write here on this computer... but it looks like a mouse holding a cross, a rake and like... a cross with a loopdy loop at the bottom. could mean many things depending on the kanji used but i would speculate its the same word as kuukan which means "space".

Like the indigenous people for which the city, county, and (as Wolf said) the racks are named. YAK-i-ma. (I run Thule racks, myself).

There's a lot of fun place names here in Washington (and Oregon and Idaho) that folks from other parts of the country don't know how to pronounce. My favorite was being corrected by a Missouri airline ticket agent on how to pronounce Spokane (she was certain it was spo-CANE, when it's really spo-CAN).

I prefer some of the American words; I've even seen enough American shows that I even find myself using your words sometimes.

The main things that throw me about American lingo is the verbosity: I notice that British equivalent phrases are often much shorter. Also it hurts my brain when Americans say "aluminium" and "genuine".

Sorry. Off topic I'll make up for it by posting a pic in here one day of me on my bike!
"Pavement" here includes sidewalks. It's basically any asphalt or concrete that can be walked or driven on, even roads. We might say that we stepped off of the pavement to say that we stepped out of the road where there was no sidewalk.

Anyway, the guy who discovered and named the element aluminum/aluminium spelled and spoke it multiple way through his life but he FIRST spelled it and pronounced it "aluminum" like the US does and, when asked, said that it was the spelling and pronunciation he preferred. He even reverted to his original spelling/pronunciation before he died. The USA spelling and pronunciation is definitely more correct and that is DIRECTLY from the source.

Gas/Gasoline doesn't make much sense but "petro" is simply short for "petroleum" and not for "specific products refined from petroleum." You aren't pumping crude oil in your car, so there should be another name for it. Petroleum Jelly/Vaseline, for example, is as much eligible to be called "petro" for short as what you put in your car, so there should be a more distinctive name for it. We haz that.

Underwear refers to more than simply underpants here. Thermal shirts, undershirts, socks, etc are included too, though without context "underwear" typically means underpants. We do say both. I live in a region where you often hear them called "draws" (drawers?).

We say trousers sometimes in some regions. Another I hear just as often here is "britches." "Pull up your britches, son!"

I have a friend who says "5-speed" everywhere he means to say "manual." Sure, the majority of manuals are 5-speed manuals, but that really shouldn't be the main way to distinguish from an automatic transmission.

I love Pacific Northwest indigenous names. Snoqualmie, Walla Walla, and Issaquah are some of my favorite names to say (with family throughout the Bellevue / Mt. Vernon area, the names are somewhat familiar).

"Drawers" and "britches" are a more Southern thing, aren't they? I only ever heard that from my Georgia grandma.

I've been seeing this promise since 2011 in this thread, but having trouble finding a picture. Have you posted one of you on your bike before?

I did find the pic of the cute girl in the house near your tree modeling the backpack, though. She looks very nice, perfect company for a little squirrel.

Ha ha. No. Just wasn't around yesterday. Didn't know I was being discussed

I still don't have any pictures of me on my bike. I'm a bit of a lone warrior (read as: doesn't have many friends) so I don't get pictures taken of me much.

Haha, I saw one of those selfie sticks in Yosemite National Park a couple of weeks ago. Someone was walking with it, while their phone was attached to it. I just shook my head. Those things are ridiculous, lol.

We (the assfaultjunkies) use one of these all the time at parties and such. We attach a contour or gopro to the end. It makes the videos a lot more stable. It works pretty well I might add. Although, it is rarely used for selfies. hahahahahahah

I'm sure it is often used for selfies in other circles.

I've used mine to get views I normally can't reach. Including under the trailer to check if the wheel bearing was leaking. I mount my video camera on it to catch shots above a crowd or over a ledge my short little arms can't reach.

Did a few selfies as a test but feel weird taking my own picture.

I take it you haven't seen this then? http://soloshot.com/
