I wonder what exactly happened... he's been riding for about 6 years now, a believer in ATGATT and was wearing a Shoei helmet one of the best helmets money can buy... I don't know how fast he was going, etc. I guess it really puts things into perspective... no matter how "safe" you are there is always a risk...
RIP fellow Rider, if there is a heaven I hope you are there.

Rest in Peace, brother.
It's certainly a shocking reminder of the risk we take every time we ride.

Man, I cannot stop thinking about the whole thing... His last post was just 3 days before his crash.... It's crazy how short and unpredictable life can be... It could just as easily happen to any one of us... he was a smart, respectful guy who knew the importance of gear, took the safety course.
I never really talked to him, but going through his old posts he always seemed very kind and always helpful. I wonder what he could of changed to avoided it? Maybe he was going a little too fast? I don't know. Rest easy Samer...

I doubt he had a chance, he may have done everything right. Some times the way others react can be the cause. If the car had waited or went a 1/10 of a second sooner or later; or maybe the car changed it's patterned after he had seen a way throught. This would of closed the path. In this case I bet he did everything right, the car misjudged the bike.

We know it, but we ride anyway.
My reason? I'd rather die living than live dying. I do the things that make me feel alive.

There are times even the smidsy can't save you, i have had someone do the same to me but seen me at the last second to stop mid lane before a crash could happen. At times you have the sun low enough in the sky to somewhat blind you to oncoming traffic, and that is a very dangerous time for riders and cars making left hand turns.

In addition to the SMIDSY, slow down, cover the brakes, and watch the wheels of vehicles that may pull out in front of you. If those wheels turn, especially if the hood also rises from engine torque, it's time to execute the escape plan!

Is there a traffic light at the intersection? Looks like the driver exiting the mall has to cross 2 lanes of northbound traffic and merge into 2 lanes southbound.

If the intersection Motofool posted is accurate; here is the rider's view. It's a signal-controlled intersection. Both vehicles shouldn't have been in one place and been able to make contact, unless one of them entered on a red.
Edit: Motofool had already posted a google panorama link below: Quote:

As it turned out I just couldn't stop thinking about riding and I bought another bike at the beginning of last season but I really have changed my riding habits. I was doing 10k miles a year before and last season I only did about 1k. Got into dual sporting as well which keeps my on two wheels but less time on public roads. Higher risk of injury, but a lower fatality rate. Hope everyone stays safe and uses this tragedy as a reminder of the dangers we face. RIP Samer |

How can we set up a donation system, that will directly benefit his wife and one-year-old-child?
Something in this thread said "if you'd like to help, donate to UNICEF, a charity he believed in/supported." I say, F-that ----- how will donations to UNICEF help his wife and now-fatherless child? Must be a way to set up a paypal account, link, address -- whatever it may be -- in which people can donate directly to his wife and child. If I didn't have the pacific ocean and half of america between that location and I, it'd be a no-brainer to make the ride to show support.

Usually the donations are to help w/ the bills that come up with services and all.
If the family is OK in that dept (maybe ins or something) they will ask for donations to a cause the person would have supported. Can't force them to accept donations directly.
