It probably has something to do with the bikes running temp in fall/winter/spring being around 170* but in the warmer months it'd hike right up to 225* (where the fan kicks on) and maybe, if you were lucky, drop down to 190* once you were moving at 70+ mph. |

^ my gsxr runs like that, gets up to 220 where the fan kicks in if it's sitting but gets down to 160-170 under some movement...granted that's track, so there's more movement

That's weird. Every dealership I showed up to just handed me the keys. Maybe it helps that I was in full gear and have some gray hair..

None of my 3 R6's ever got too hot. my street bike would stay at 165-180 pretty much all the time, and that's in Northern California where it can get hot. Then again, I only ran distilled water/Water Wetter in all my bikes so it keeps temps a few degrees cooler.
I'd really like to try out the R1 at the track with it TC. My FZ1 will spin up the rear tire pretty controllably exiting turns if I want it to, but there's only a few turns that I'm comfortable doing that. How cool would it be to WOT exiting a turn and having the bike plant itself and launch out? yeah, pretty cool. btw... how old are ya Danny Boy?

The one kawi dealer let me test ride my ninja 300 and I bought it two days later. But when I asked to test ride the cbr600rr they still said they couldn't. :/ I guess since it's a Super sport they are more strict? I don't know. They had the 09 cbr600rr with 400 miles mint condition too for 7k, If I got to test ride it I probably would of put a deposit down.

If you have bought a bike from them previously, they shouldnt take you for a tire kicker. If they dont let you test a used bike that your actually interested in buying i would find a new dealership, permanently. As long as you show a motorcycle license and insurance, you should be fine. I even go so far as test riding a dealers bike, but they didnt work with me at all in price so i went elsewhere. |

Probably the only time Brad Smith will ever beat Vale on a Yamaha. Funny to see them ride those things. Perhaps brakes are a bit weak on them?

It was never going to be the concept though
still looks pretty damn good though. Looks about as good as the ninja 300 and much better than the cbr300r. Not as good as the rc390 though but that's technically a different class

It doesn't seem that much faster than the 300. Although, i'm sure it is.

Quicker yes but it's not going to be much faster, just fast enough to advertise that it's faster so it's more marketable to the consumers. The suspension is what I'm really interested in.

It's just irritating that the Japanese companies put out such bland learner bikes. Ktm has showed us that little bikes can be sexy.

IDK, they're a hell of a lot better than they used to be. The selection now is better than it ever has been for learner bikes and it's still looking up.
I also don't consider the rc390 to be a learner bike, rather a proper small displacement sportbike. You can learn on one for sure though.

It's funny how the yamaha motor sport website considers the R3 as a super sport. Where as the kawasaki site puts the 300 in the sport section.
I think the japanese companies are getting better overall, but they will never be as good as when they were producing the inline 4 250's.

ehhh...those weren't really meant to be learner bikes. I mean they were but at the same time they're more like proper supersports

Yeah, that's true. Although I think a beginner would have a better chance on a cbr250rr over a cbr600rr

The 600s today and the 600s a few decades back are completely different beasts
that said the 250rr would be a better choice for a beginner but the standard bikes of the time were the ideal

I bet the build quality on the r3 is higher than the rc390 though. I wish I would have started on a r3 or ninja 300, they seems leaps better than the ninja 250. |

Yeah, small bikes will never be as good as the original. What a shame. /snark I do, like many others, lust for a triple or I4 300cc rocket. But it's just not going to happen. So much has been improved and to make a similar product to those baby rockets would set you back just as much as a modern super sport. It would be a niche bike. I do have to say though, dat sound that comes from a 250cc four banger is lovely. |

Somehow I think a ~400cc I3 sport bike is something he'd be somewhat interested in making. Or we could just do it ourselves, how hard can it be. I mean the britten was built by hand

I mean a ktm rc390 can be had for $9,000 with pretty decent adjustable suspension and 43 hp with a far more useable powerband than the old small displacement sport bikes. That's better than the 90s bikes if you ask me. For example, the ZX-2R made 45hp and the RC390 makes 43hp, the ZX-2R was 144kg dry and the RC390 is 147kg dry, the ZX-2R had a 1370mm wheelbase the RC390 has a 1340mm wheelbase. Now I'm not sure what the suspension spec was on the Kawi except that it was upside down just like the KTM. The KTMs suspenders are nonadjustable from the factory, but for $2,700 you can have the cup spec suspension fitted. To me, it seems like the new little bikes are RIGHT on par with the old 250cc I4s, they just have a different cylinder count. I might add that while the Kawi is slightly lighter and slightly more powerful than the KTM, the KTM smokes the Kawi in the torque department 26 at 7200 rpm for the KTM vs only 19 at 11500 rpm for the Kawi. Yeah... but 373cc's vs 249cc's.With a 124cc advantage, you really cannot compare the two. That's almost like comparing the gsxr 750 to the r6.

No. It's like comparing a Panigale to a R1, less cylinders, more displacement.
