I decided it was time to get organized and get some proper tools.
Picked up a spiffy workbench with pegboard, some sturdy shelves, and an impact wrench.

Engine Sprocket Nut - 93.7 ft-lbs
After two hours of trying to break that loose (tried full body weight on the rear brake, wedging a bar between the rear wheel and swing arm, tying the rear brake down and getting the longest bar I could find, putting the bike in gear, putting the bike in neutral, bracing the breaker bar on a board to keep it from falling off), I gave up, spent the $60, and had it off within 10 seconds. Yes, I bought a tool for one single nut that I'll only undo about once a year but saves me a trip to the shop.

I got one of those benches from a friend that the corkboard and drawer liners had rotted through.. $15 in thin plywood later, I've got a very serviceable bench! Good stuff

A friend I met when I first began this long distance silliness emailed me the other day with an offer of a heated Widder vest he can no longer wear. Sure, won't turn down free gear.
Turns out it was more than just the vest (35w), also scored the arm chaps (20w), gloves (22w), and leg chaps (33w), all heated and just slightly higher draw than my one Gerbing jacket (77w). (picture stolen from ebay)

Half off! How could I say no!
Hopefully it fits well. I wear a small in other helmets that I've owned/tried on so I'm hoping the small fits well. http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/b...1-helmet-solid The catch? You can have any color as long as it's matte black. |

Last helmet I bought on that large of a deal was old enough that I shouldn't be using it any more. So it's a great price up front, but idk how much I actually trust it, with its older ratings and aged. It was a nice purchase to get me through, but next time I do it, I'll be buying a brandy new model that's as new as possible from a store location.
Too bad the dealership near me is a dud and has dropped all brands worth any salt. They have ****** knock off stuff now and no more Scorpion, no more HJC, no more Shark, no more Icon, no more Bell, no more anything in the reasonable price range. They did still have the Arai helmets though... for like $700 or something... Their gear selection has dropped just as bad. No more stock of anything, just the cheap mesh jackets that are loaded with the Suzuki race replica graphics. Squids. I like scorpion helmets. Good bang for the buck. |

Hell, it may not even fit right on my head. I'll report back tomorrow. But it's still a new helmet. Yeah it won't have Snell 2015 ratings but I bet it's safer than my four year old 707 (Cycle Gear Brand) helmet. And I hear you on crappy motorcycle gear at local stores. My local CG has a poor selection on everything. They have a few AGV, Shoei, and Arai helmets and the rest are crap. No Scorpion, Bell, Icon. |

Helmet was too tight. And there was terrible pain when I removed my helmet. My ears felt like they were getting ripped off. Don't know how I squeezed my head in there. I'm going to send it back. Ordered some leather pants instead. Will wait for more Snell 2015 helmets to arrive.
@choneofakind made valid points about older new helmets for a "great deal." The Bell helmet I received was made in 2013. It had never been worn but at the same time it will be going on 3 years old. It's not exactly "new." I hate buying clothing/motorcycle gear online. Returning stuff is annoying and you can't quickly try on different sized stuff. Really hoping the pants I ordered fit. Bought the A* Airflow Missiles. |

I got a really nice exhaust, a set of tires, a Givi trunk, and a cool LED integrated tail (for an R6) for the tenere! Oh yeah, a new pair of TCX boots for me!
And a really cool painting from my friend in New Mexico! *edit* Holy crap, I spent too much money!

Before you know it, it'll feel weird to NOT wear full leathers. Certainly feels that way to me on those very rare occasions when I wear street pants (e.g. riding to the diner at lunch).

Good choice Jono! Those will serve you well, I can show you the pics of my multiple crashed a*'s. But know they are NOT cold weather leathers, this mild weather so far this winter is perfect for them though. Fully geared up and perfectly comfortable ftw!

Grabbed a 'Freeze Out' top ($30) and balaclava ($15) from Cyclegear. Around an hour on the road averaging ~60mph in 45 Fahrenheit weather, I felt pretty comfy. I'd rate them as a win. Riding in 50F+ weather, I was struggling not to break into a sweat when stopped. YMMV.
Edit/Update: Still toasty at 34 Fahrenheit ambient, winds up to 15mph.

I finally got some heated gear! my first gear jacket and gloves, I may get some chap liners ( don't want the pants, bigger to pack, harder to put on over boots) if needed, but my legs usually don't get cold.
Also picked up: a bunch of tires for the bikes, mostly the tenere A givi trunk, for the tenere An exhaust....tenere And there is no integrated tail light for the Tenere, so I'm going to make an R6 light work for me! And New Sena 20S so my son can have my 10 for Coms and music

Needed(excuse) a new pair of gloves for summer, so I turned to my favorite brand of gear, Fieldsheer Mistral Mesh Leather Gloves.
http://www.compacc.com/p/fieldsheer-...8bCRoCvlvw_wcB Once again I'm very satisfied with my choice, very comfortable gloves, protection seem good, great fit but then again Fieldsheer products have always run on the small size for me. Having used Fieldsheer exclusively for a lot of years now, I know this. Familiarity with a product is a good thing.
