I think if you are disappointed, you might have been a little unrealistic with your expectations of an entry level low price sport bike.

Prototypes always have to seem awesome, but then the final product as to be affordable.

Its fun to look at supermodels but you don't go an marry one.

Same thing with bikes lol

And I'd be willing to bet it will have valve clearance checks every 20k-ish like their WR250R/X which is every 26,600 mi. I at least hope so!
The way they did that was with a particularly expensive engine for a single-cylinder dirtbike, with titanium valves and other high-spec bits. It is also why the WR250X cost $1500 - $2000 more than its competition.

The R25 looks like it has none of the high-end bits, and is built to a cost. It's all speculation, but mine is that it will end up between the ninja 250 and ninja 300 in peak power, but similar to the 250 in torque.

different animals all together. Kawasaki's MX 250 4 stroke thumper makes in the mid 30's stock. Why didn't Kawi use this tech in the 300? Because it doesn't work that way on a budget street bike for more than one reason. 250 4stroke thumper dirtbikes have been putting out these kinds of numbers since early 2000's it's nothing new.

As Chone pointed out, number will be at the crank not the wheel.

this is probably motor power not rear wheel power.

I am still excited to see something new from Yamaha. I still am waiting for them to update their R6.

Awesome news! Competition can only improve the market. It should make Kawasaki step up their game.

Aesthetically, I prefer the 2008+ Ninja 250. This Yami has a bitty/complicated look with too many sharp lines. The Ninja 250 looks smooth, curvy and flowing. I'm looking forward to the first time I see and hear one of these in person though.

Yamaha-R25-pic-predator-black.jpg

Edit: having clicked the image above and then flicked between the two, it looks like the Yami sits higher from the ground. I don't know what effect (if any) that would have on the performance/feel of the bike, but I know that practically speaking, I would prefer my ninjette to not be so close to the ground. I've lost count of the number of times I've had to make a ramp just to get my ninjette over a tiny curb or step without smashing the fairings. I guess I shouldn't complain... I should just get a supamoto

just wheelie it!

seriously though, the yami looks nice and I like the wheels. I also imagine that the performance and fit/finish will be top notch like most yami products.

Here's someone revving it to 14K. The second video shows the shift light. I also just noticed a gear indicator, fuel gauge, and engine temperature gauge. I sure hope it comes with this instrument cluster:

wow, that sounds so good for a stock exhaust on a parallel twin engine
I like the gauge cluster too, it even has a gear indicator lol. That would be useful if I ever looked at my speedo.

I think I may get one of these if anything ever happens to my 300. I don't consider the honda cbr300r a bike that I would want in the small displacement sport bike category but this r25 fits the bill pretty nicely. To be fair my 300 is still slightly quicker

I would love a v4 mini bike. Too bad economics get in the way both for manufacturers and us poor consumers.

I have too much money in mine to jump ship.

Also....I wonder how mine would stack up against the 300. Any near me?

you and your yamahas

seriously though the r25 looks sick, have fun with it once you get it. I think I'll stick to my 300 though, it would take a bike that can offer me something that it can't for me to switch.

I do know that, but aren't most of Yamaha's street bikes titanium-valved? Probably not I guess. And the WR cost more than the competition for many other reasons than just the titanium valves. It had an aluminum frame, fully adjustable suspension front and rear, and fuel injection, unlike the competition. But it's engine is basically 1/4 of an R1 engine, so yeah, they probably won't offer titanium valves on this budget global market bike. So if that's the case, I'd put my money into a used WR250X!

Brap brap!

That engine video does sound good for a stock
bike with stock exhaust.
The engine is not blubbery at all & revs nicely
also the shift light is a nice touch.

Also being 8kg lighter is a good start

Hopefully they keep spurning each other on now
& go for alloy frame/swingarm & better suspension

Will also be interesting to see what the USA/Euros get with the
R3 version. Might be like the Kawasaki 2013 250 which became the 300
everywhere else

I just don't see anything about this bike that makes it stand out other than the Yamaha logos on it.

The Ninja 300 will be faster, have better aftermarket and close to the same price. Why would you get this Yamaha over it.

A 400cc engine would have been something to set this bike apart from the Ninja 300 and CB500R. Maybe high revving like a Ninja 300/250 but some more torque down low?

I think it's made for A2 license holders in mind... Also in Indonesia, where the bike is being launched first, they have abnormally high taxes for bikes above 250cc.

because the 250 version is almost on par with the 300. When they release the 300 version of the Yammy it will be way better than the ninja 300.

These specs are released so folks like us can debate them forever online. But until the bike is on someone's hands, and run on the same dyno at the same time as one of the bikes we're comparing it to (either the ninja 250 or 300), it's all pretty wild speculation. Interested to see how it all shakes out.

at that point, I'd buy one

Then I'd have a track bike, a track/aggressive street bike, and a commuter bike

prob make the N300 into the track/aggressive street bike due to the scars

edit: with a bit more thought on it, I'd be more likely to grab a used cbr600rr or 636 ('03-'06 version) to avoid having 3 bikes from the same class. That or a supermoto.
