Through whom? The track itself?
I'd be down for that.

So what you're saying is that I can go and corner work one day then ride the next free of charge?
5hr drive isn't too bad, I may do this at some point since I want to ride the track

I may just have a slick tongue but I feel like I could convince a gf, and by extension a wife, that track days are much safer than street riding. While that logic could end up with me being a track only rider down the line I think I could live with that assuming I have the $$$ to support the sport

Probably not, being a volunteer might be an ease into it though. Family doesn't condone the idea of me racing and also thinks I will kill myself anytime I ride.
I will see perhaps I can get away with volunteering on the weekends/ every other Friday.

Try the "it's a school that happens to take place at a track" approach and then take a track school with a reputable org. This combined with a "foot in the door" approach leads to you being able to justify a few track days. Racing is a completely different story and can be very difficult to justify but the occasional track day shouldn't be an issue. It really is crazy safer than public roads even at the speeds that you can do.

Once my g/f saw how the day was run and how safe and fun it really is, shes fine with my doing track days now, but before that she was also very worried about it. Its the best way to learn how to ride a motorcycle, honestly. You can concentrate soley on riding and improving your abilities. Its required to be geared up to the max, and there is a ton of safety margin built it between run off or tire walls, air fence, etc.

I gotcha, it's more about how you say it than what you say though. How you present it differs person to person though. I'm lucky, it's a prerequisite for me that any girl I end with that is ok with me track riding since I don't see myself giving it up anytime soon. Riding as a whole isn't on the table for me either.
I like the idea of showing rather than telling in this instance, especially if you make sure to go with a reputable org. This would have backfired hard for me though since I saw more crashes (including my own) at my first track day than I've seen in every track day since combined (8 days)

I also want to be very real here, riders have died doing this stuff but... we take controlled risks every day and don't, shouldn't, CAN'T live in a bubble either.

I am having her check into things I've looked at a couple dozen times. 1 question though, I know that NYST has memberships and then you have TTD which has its own thing. I am guessing the only difference is TTD has events at different tracks, where NYST is just events at their track, which can include TTD track days?

NYST is the actual track and runs their own events, TPM is a track day organization that does have events there though.
TTD is a track day organization like TPM, TTD is much more safety oriented i would say though, geared toward newer track riders. Its more expensize as well, they are riding Thompson and Palmer this year, and i THINK are the only motorcycle group that can go on those track as well. @csmith12 , im not mad at your honest answers, it got me a Ducati

NYST is very safety oriented (and FUN!). You won't see any racing unless you're in expert, but they're just quick riders. If you're looking to learn and have fun, go to NYST.
I'm not being paid to say this.

You don't need to be, everyone endorses their home track since it tends to be their favorite. Some are lucky to have a good selection of tracks to choose their favorite from others aren't but people tend to ride their favorite track the most when compared with other courses. For instance I'm doing 6-8 more track days at shenandoah which is my favorite track and I'd recommend it to anyone who isn't going to approach it with a racing mindset (not the best track for that, go to summit main where the runoff exists)

i'm sorry, but a partner telling you they will leave you if you pursue a relatively safer version of a hobby you already take part in is not someone that i would ever want to be with. the only viable excuse for riding street versus track is that its cheaper. so if that's her reasoning then she's a gold digger. even MORE reason to dump her.

She just has in her mind that its going to be racing, like what's on tv. Also compares it to NASCAR. I don't like when people use ultimatums as an excuse to force someone to do as they think. She just need to see it in better light. I'd rather be with her type of a person then the ones that run around behind your back. She's a very decent person just overly concerned for my safety. No where near a gold digger, I probably spend more on my toys then her. I'm very money conscious but when it comes to my bike and toys that money is gone faster then I can think about it lol.

so you mean that instead of learning about something you're interested in, she has preconceptions that are incorrect and wont listen to reasoning, and has told you that if you do it she will leave you? that sounds even worse. she sounds controlling and insecure. not the type of person i would ever be with, but to each their own.
also its total bs to believe that there are only two options, a cheater or some insecure control freak. there are real people out there also.

O I know there are more types out there. Certainly not saying that I only have the pick of the two. Just needs her eyes opened that is all. Don't know about you but I've heard a lot of people say to me that riding is dangerous. When they have that concept already in their head and then you say I'm thinking of going to the track they over think it. She has her family telling her it and has never been on a bike so to her its a death incident waiting to happen. Not going to crucify her for that just got to work on changing that mantra.

One of the smartest things I ever did was have my (then) new wife take the MSF course with me. It's a fun way to spend the day together. She'll learn stuff. It will take the fear of the unknown out of it.
She might even want to try riding. Here's the thing. This is something you love. So she should recognize that and at least try to understand why you love it. Bonus tip: You're going to have to do something she wants to do that you may not want to. This is a two-way street.

@adouglas
I completely agree, she currently only wishes to be a pillion. She still has her PA residence which means she can take the MSF for free. I already took it, and since my residence is now in NY it would cost me to take it with her. It will be on her own choice though, I am fine with talking to her about it but in the end it will be her own decision to do such.
