How do people ride with shorts without getting burned?

After a 30 minute ride, I came home and changed into shorts and a tee and then lubed the chain. When transporting my bike to the backyard from my garage, I don't gear up fully (Squid, I know). Because I was wearing shorts, my legs touched the frame and it was hot enough for me to snap my leg back from the heat.

So my question is, how do people ride while wearing shorts?

Their Squiddlyness detaches neurons in their brains that normally send signals to the extremeties to let you know that something is burning. Also stops signals from reaching parts of the brain that maintain our logical thinking

They ride loose and do not touch the frame.

lmao I think that's probably the scientific explanation.

Yeah, I suppose, but I guess that means that they have a bunch of weight on their handlebars, since they can't hold on with their legs.

Hey Ben, the pics reveal all. Browse through http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=41733. Mostly straight arms with locked elbows. It's almost a dead giveaway.

I just saw an older gsxr 600 on my way to work this morning, and what do you know? He was wearing shorts. Maybe I should have asked what the secret was, but I just gave the obligatory head nod instead.

that's odd, I can ride either of my bikes with shorts on and I wouldn't burn myself at all. I wouldn't want to though because it's annoying when wind gets into the shorts. Pants in general feel better on a bike, especially if they have protective armor in them.

I never understand squids because I feel more comfortable wearing gear than I do without it.

Seriously though, wearing shorts and a t-shirt as your riding gear is pretty dumb in my opinion. I've heard horror stories of doctors picking pieces of asphalt out of peoples skin. Doesn't sound fun to me.

I posted a few pics of me with a group of people during a bike ride one summer and one person commented: Isn't is hot wearing that jacket? My response was "I'd rather sweat than bleed".

Here is Florida, there's no requirement to wear a helmet if you're over 21 and have health insurance. When non-riders would criticize the fact that many in Florida don't wear helmets, I used to say, It's mostly Harley people. But then I noticed on enough occasions a guy on a sport bike going fast and his riding gear consisted of shades. Funny thing is that more often than not, he had a helmet hanging off the side of the bike, maybe for his girlfriend?

What I find strange is that I am seeing a lot of guys out riding on their motorcycles in T-shirts, even shorts - and it's really not that warm! This is the Pacific Northwest: the afternoon high temperatures have been reaching _maybe_ the mid-60s.

It's not even room temperature - aren't you freaking _cold_ without wearing a jacket??

When I ride a zx-6r on a hot day, the frame is too hot too touch. I've ridden with shorts, you can barely touch the tank. Basically you have really bad body positioning.

I see people riding in shorts all the time now that it's getting warmer, I just don't get it. No insulation from the heat of the bike probably makes you hotter... I mean if the ambient temperature is 85 and the bike is 185.... What I REALLY don't understand is people who wear armored riding jackets and shorts.... Protect one half of your body but not the other?
