2006 Ninja starting issues
I have a 2007 ninja I'm taking over from my wife. She used it last summer but is no longer riding. Unfortunately, we had no place to store the bike so it sat outside (in NJ) all winter. To make matters worse, the bike was not winterized. When I uncovered the bike I found that the petcock was left in the ON position. Needless to say, the bike is starting. I figure the carbs are flooded & the gas is bad. The starter turns over, I heard a couple of "putts" but it did not fire up. I'm pretty handy with tools, but I never worked on a bike before. My question to the community is what are some of the steps I can take myself to try and get it running again before having to bit he bullett & take it to a mech. Oh, the Ninja has been sitting since Oct 2012.
I'm new to the forum but from what I've read everyone seems to be really helpful when answering questions...even from a newb. So, thanks in advance for any & all advice with my problem. Posted via Mobile Device |

Welcome to the board, I would simply start with an oil change and drain the gas from the tank and the carbs, you definately have water in the gas. make sure all of it is out and put fresh gas in.

SUCCESS!!! My baby Ninja is up and running. Had the fuel tank drained, carbs cleaned, spark plug replaced & oil changed. Sounds & feels great! Now I can start on some of the cosmetic changes I wanna do.
