My Baby has been Stolen!!!

After waiting all winter, researching and ordering parts, last weekend (April 12-13,2014) was going to me my first time bringing my 2012 Ninja 250 to the track. I spent 2 years planning for this and all week watching videos, studying the track turns, watching twist of the wrist 2 and taking off all electrical parts and prepping. Me and my buddy installed pitbull restraint systems for each of the 3 bikes heading to track. After we finished we loaded up the bikes late thursday night. Friday morning, the day we were supposed to leave i get a phone call from my buddy that the trailer we had them in had been broken into and all three bikes were stolen. Cops showed up and detectives took one of the pitbull stands for prints. Haven't heard anything good yet  I'm fearing the worst. 2 of 3 were uninsured including mine. I've learned my lesson.

comprehensive type coverage is dirt cheap by itself.

Thank you guys for the support. I hope these guys are caught before this happens to anyone else. As for coverage I only had liability when she was on the road. Theft and collision would cost me 1200 a year here in NY and since she was a designated track bike I didn't think much of it. 99% she is in the garage or the trailer. Just a poor turn of events.

OMG, that's infuriating! I am sooooooo sorry and can't imagine how angry you must be! You should have been experiencing the most exhilierating day of your life on the track, not dealing with cops and a missing bike.

Did the trailer or the car it was attached to have insurance? Was this in a drive way of a house that has home owners or renters insurance? Explore your options

The Trailer was in the street in front of his mail box and it was hooked up to the truck however, no insurance covers. Neither car nor home insurance.

First, I'm sorry that your bike was stolen. I can't imagine how pissed I'd be if it happened to me. But I'm not sure when it has become acceptable to set up web pages to give charity-like donations for things like this. It's a toy, that you chose to keep uninsured. If it really was a two-year dream and at the top of the list of your priorities, you need to have treated it as such. Asking your friends to pay for your motorcycle is tacky. Elsewhere on this site, a long-term member has set up a similar page for him to be able to get to the track with other people's funds. It's equally tacky.

(And I hope the thieves get ebola)

Says the guy with enough funds to have 5 bikes all '12 and newer. I could see if I set the account up for myself, but this is not the case. Insurance here doesn't cover track or after market parts as far as I'm aware. So the cost of theft Insurance and what the bike is worth in their eyes after $1000 deductible isn't worth even having unless the bike is financed IMO. If a person went through the trouble and made an account for friends and family to help you out would you immediately tell them thanks but it's tacky and take it down? I honestly respect your straight forwardness and opinion but i would really like to know what you would do in this situation?

Sorry for your loss. Having your girlfriend ask for donations is nice and all but it became tacky when you asked people to share it. No idea why you spent money ordering parts and etc for your first trackday. It's like washing your bike right before you go off road. If you really just want a trackday, find a place that does rentals.

$1000 deductible on a $5000 bike, seems like a good idea to me. Even if they don't cover the track they do cover it being stolen whether it was track prepped or not.

I have comprehensive on my dedicated racing bike as well as my dad's 07 250 that's worth less than 2k

I'd realize I screwed up, and prepare differently next time. But that's beside the point. The reality is that your friends are going to roll their eyes at you asking to donate for your toy. The few bucks that do come in will be relatively pointless, and the farther the link spreads the tackier your friends will think you are being. It's not a medical issue, you're not being evicted, you're not putting money together to go back to school, or visiting a dying family member, or feeding the orphans, or healing the sick, or housing the less fortunate.

Your trackbike got stolen.

You guys are right! All i can say is, you don't think of these things till someone objects. I'm glad you guys are truthful enough to point that out. No hard feelings on my end. Tough love is what you call this. I agree completely. I'll talk to her tonite to take it down . Lojack is a must for all of my bikes from here on out and I will prepare as if everyone is going to steal my bike as I pretend everyone is trying to kill me when i ride. Thanks fellas for caring enough sometimes you do stupid things when your desperate. Ill just live and learn like the rest of 'em.

Priority should probably be comprehensive coverage first. If your bike ever gets stolen, would you rather get a payout or have the bike recovered totaled or who knows what the thief did to it?

Damn that sucks. Hope for the best, but just be prepared to never see it again.

I'll just go ahead and say that two years planning for your first trackday is overkill. No wonder it took two years. You bought a seperate bike, and you and your buddy spent nearly a grand on pit bull restraints? Jeebus. Just pay the money, rent a u-haul trailer and buy some tie downs and take whatever motorcycle you have out there. There are guys on clapped out looking pos's all day long, dude's on goldwings, cruisers, bmw gs's, you name it. A bike is only a part of it. Sounds like you still have all your gear. Sell one of those pit bull restraints, buy some cheap tie downs and get your ass out there.

Do it now and don't wait. I didn't know about trackdays until they became somewhat popular and affordable 10 years after I got into riding. Once I found out it was a matter of weeks before my first day.

Probably not beg for money or donations to replace a toy. I work two jobs to avoid having to ask for money and still have enough to live and deal with unexpected **** that comes up. It's not always easy, but it's part of life.

I'm not sure how people live with themselves or look in the mirror after doing something like that. That's the bottom of the barrel scum for you. I'm wondering if it was for the thrill or centered around materialism?

Anyways, sorry for the loss.

Thieves are rarely doing it for the thrill. They do it for money. That money either goes to drugs or they just do it because it is easy money.
