Red face Told a Ducati no

Met a new rider today at the gas station. List of everything I learned in 15 minutes:

He's been riding for 10 years
He loves 250's and raves about corner speed
He rides 60% track, 40% street
His current track bike is an R-title GSXR 750

And finally, the cream of the crop

His newest baby is the Ducati Panigale 1199 R.
30 thousand dollar machine
Just had its first service ($700)
Last month, he took it to Pittsburgh for a $3000 overhaul to boost the horses to 214 at the rear wheel!

I shat myself 4 separate times during this encounter. My bowels have throughly been emptied.

First shat was the price tag. My baby ninja was $2500!

Second, did you know these bikes fully adjust EVERYTHING electronically. I mean everything. The dash is beautiful! And they have no frame!

Third went something like this: "Ever sat on a Ducati?" -full pants- By this stranger's invitation, I sat on his brand new italian stallion. The riding stance on that bike was incredible. I imagine that it is similar to the feeling of riding bareback on a lion while it takes down a gazelle.

The fourth, and by far the largest shat, requires a bit more background. After I climbed off the ducati, he motioned to my bike. "By all means" I said. He through his leg over and started feeling the bike over. "Everything is just how I remember it" he says. "Front suspension is soft as a baby's bottom. Super light. God, I miss my ninja" He laughs as he gets off my bike and looks at the broken tail. "Crashed it, huh? Nothing wrong with that. I've done it too." It's about time I head off to work (where I am now). Relaying that to him, he responds "Which way you headed?" My job is less than 2 miles from the gas station, leave the parking lot, left yield, blast up a hill, pass walmart, and bam, you're at my job. He says to me, your not going to believe this, he says "Could you do me a favor?" ...of course, whats up? He says "I really miss my 250. It's not far at all. Want to trade? I'll ride right behind you the whole way" SHAT!!!

No joke, no word of lie. He is holding his key out to me! This man wants to put me on his $30,000 ducati so that he can rip the **** out of my 250 for 2 miles. I didn't believe him. Said to him "You're ****ing with me" But he's serious. My brain split in half and melted. I stuttered. Like, tried to speak and stuttered like an idiot. I-I-I-I-I-I-I... He started laughing, at which point, my thought process was verified that he was just messing with me. Then he crushed that little sense of comfort by patting the tail of his Ducati and saying "its just a bike, Kevin. It only goes as fast as you make it go. You'll be fine." Ok, I say to myself. Gotta be brave. Gotta be a man here. I stepped forward, reached out my hand... and shook his. "Thanks but thats not something I'm ready for just yet. Another time maybe." He smiled and commented about me knowing my limits better than anyone. I climbed onto my trusty steed and rode off into the night, with the sound of a wild Ducati echoing into the hills in the other direction.

End of the thread note: You may recall I had a similar experience with a man and his scooter. Turned him down too. Next time this happens, I'll see if I can figure out why people want me to ride their bikes lol

I couldn't do it lol. I don't have 30 grand to pay for the quick throttle control lesson I would learn.

It has been my observation that he was definitely admiring the width of you hips, the smell of your perfume, and the shortness of your skirt. He most certainly wanted to put his penor in you.

Glad you said no. If you said yes, you would currently be indebted to that man and repaying him in sexual favors at the moment due to no other viable financial recourse.

You've just proven that you're going to live a long time and have a very successful riding career.

Well done! You're thinking with the big head not the small one, and that's a good thing.

Eventually you'll be in a place where saying yes will feel right.

trust me, inline 250 to 1000cc V-twin Duc... that's like night and standing on the surface of the sun.

I have the (other way) story. First time my daughter drove something with 2 wheels... my buddy has a Yamaha Zuma scooter... so we get over to his house and my daughter wants to ride behind me for a bit... So we get off the Suzuki TL1000R and onto the 49cc Zuma. I'm sitting there twisting the throttle like I would on the TL... rrrrrRrrrRRrRRRrrrRRRR...

my buddy says," basically you pin it until you are going to the speed you want to go"

dude, if I pin my throttle, i'm looking at the sky.

Riding a lion bareback as it takes down a gazelle... WITH IT"S TAIL ON FIRE!!!!

I think I would have said no as well.

I do have a theory on the $30,000 Ducati though.

It seems to me that if you have 30 grand to lay down on a bike, it's probably just that to you a bike. For instance I paid 5 grand for my bike, to me it's just a bike. I would let someone else ride it. Now if I was older and made considerably more money. That Panigale would all of a sudden cost about the same amount of my disposable income as my FZ, therefor, it would be just a bike to me.

You should've rode the thing. It would've opened your eyes to a lot of truths if you will. Like superbikes are so ridiculous for the street. The side exit exhaust of the panigale shoots the heat right onto your ankles at a stop. It literally feels like a heat gun searing your flesh off. The riding position sucks. The gearing is so tall you're always on the clutch around town. But get it pointed at a corner and there is nothing like them.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ this has always been my policy, too. Same thing if someone wants to ride my motorcycle. Their motorcycle had better be worth more than mine before I even consider letting them ride mine.

I would hate to sit on someones bike and drop it, so I probably would've said no even if they offered for me to ride it. On the other hand you should have let him ride the 250

^^^see this is where I felt bad lol. I wouldve let him ride my bike in a second, Its got scratches and dents and a broken tail, and is worth ****-all in the market but it's a gem to me and it looked like he felt the same about it. Besides, I know he can handle it

And that's exactly what he was thinking of about you. I would have ridden it. It's just a bike.

Sadly when you meet your hero it is generally a let-down. I used to love Ducatis until I rode one.

Obviously you didn't ride it long enough! Riding a Ducati is great, it's the maintainance that sucks.

I wasn't a fan. You can take the bike off of the track but you can't take the track out of the bike. It's a track bike. It's not a street bike. At all...

Beautiful though. I have a lady boner for them.
