If you want to know what a hipster is then you need to know how to be a hipster. These are the rules:
1. You cannot like something that is popular (or "mainstream") even if it's really good... and even if you like it.
2. To express your individuality you have to look different to everyone else... but... that "individual" look must include, thick framed glasses, vintage clothing, mis-matched colour schemes and if you're male you have to have a moustache or beard. Also, you have to look a bit androgynous.
3. New and practical technology is sh*t and mainstream. You must use old technology like typewriters and Polaroid cameras. You must then take photos of said, old technology on your brand-new iPhone and post it to your instagram account.
4. A film of someone pissing in an empty soup-can is art. The Mona Lisa is sh*t and mainstream.
5. A pseudo-random collection of discordant, non-tuneful sounds is music. Beathhoven is sh*t and mainstream.
6. You have to not care about what anyone thinks of you. Be yourself.
7. Every one of your actions must be carefully calculated to ensure other hipsters think you're cool. Whatever you do: don't be yourself.
8. Most importantly! Don't EVER develop any useful skills. It's much better to spend your time mocking other people who are developing useful skills.

It's basically a stupid fad. I give it a couple of years and only a few hipster dregs will remain. At some point they've got to realize how hypocritical and dysfunctional they are. It's not even how they look: ultimately it doesn't matter if I or anyone else thinks someone looks stupid... who cares. They can dress how they want. It's the hipster ethos that is truly retarded!

<-- hipster!

(The UK has a LOT of hipsters. Not sure why.)

Never underestimate the power of grinders and sparks to achieve high television ratings.

I have seen more flying sparks during a 30-minute TV show than during half a century working with motorcycles and in mechanical and machine shops.

It seems to be appealing to TV producers and audience that do not have a clue about the subject.

It's ok! There are plenty of non-hipsters into classic Nintendo! I like single-speed bicycles, but am not of hipster-kind.

I'm curious. What kind of mod work are you planning to do?

Everything from KevTris' HDMI kit to 3D printed accessories, and reproduction of impossible to find cartridges. I think I can ramp up the volume enough to really put the other guys to shame.

Awesome! There's something very nice about cartridges. A nice tactile experience. Never liked floppy disks though and I'm glad I just missed the tape era. My friend had a comodor 64 which took tapes - it was ridiculous... annoying... slow... buggy.

I actually have the habit of blowing on USB sticks before inserting them because of my experience with the MegaDrive and N64 :P Stupid I know.

Yeah and now I have an Xbox Kinect I rarely use. My hands don't like the controllers and I can never remember the button combos for doing anything.

But the Kinect is fun when I clean up my living room enough to use it.
