Please Tell Me NOT to Buy a Triumph Street Triple R

I love my Ninja. It's a fantastic bike, I ride it every day, and it does everything that I want it to exceedingly well. I hope to ride it for years to come, and I have no plans to be rid of it any time soon.

But the 2013 Triumph Street Triple R is a beautiful machine, and that's something that my Ninja simply is not. Where the Ninja is utilitarian and practical, the STR is brutal and daring. Where the Ninja is tame and sensible, the STR is ravaging and provocative. I know that I don't need an STR, especially not with my perfectly reasonable Ninja as my primary means of transport, but goddammit, I. Want. One.

What would I do with such a thing? It's art, and to ruin it would be murder, but to let it sit would be shameful. Should I ride it on weekends, with my Ninja keeping its duties as commuter? Impossible. Should I put it in my garage to be admired by only me and only me? Ridiculous.

Try ignoring the sexiest woman or man, as is your preference, within the nearest 10 miles. Especially when she or he exists only to please you.

Please people, help me to avoid this devilish temptation. Tell me NOT to buy a Triumph Street Triple R.

Get it. Love my Triumph, although it's a Daytona and strictly for track duty. Still, just get it!

I'm a fan as well. Almost pulled the trigger on one just a short while ago, but ended up getting some dirtbikes instead, so it will have to wait for awhile.

I think you're asking the wrong group to tell you not to get a new bike.

Lemme try though.

If you can't easily afford the payments, insurance and repairs DON'T GET IT.

On the other hand, if you can figure out a way to pay for everything, DO IT!

Yup, even though I sold mine for a 300, I can't tell you not to buy one. You have it down exactly right: you'll lose the utilitarian bike, and pick up a sexy, ridiculous, overpowered, undertame, rather unreasonable, but fun-as-hell bike. Since you already know that, I've got nothin', lol.

The biggest problem with Street Triples is their suspension, the R has better suspension.

If you really don't want it I'll happily mind it for you...

While the R does have better suspension and brakes (and is cheaper than doing the upgrades separately), curious why you think the stock suspension is a "problem"?

A few owners have told me it's like a pogo stick at the front, there's no adjustment & to look for one with a Daytona's front end put on.

The streets around here were originally cobblelock, they're not much smoother now.

Put 105bhp, cheap suspension & bad road surfaces together & it's a problem

Every bike has a 'problem' something the owners would like to change, on the 250 it's the lack of overtaking power on tap.

I could probably assemble what I'd consider my 'perfect' bike, but it would cost the same as a house in some of the dodgier parts of the country

I could have swore that they actually changed that in 2013 with adjustable bits, but alas I was wrong and am quite disappointed.

Gary, you're asking a bunch of motorcycle-obsessed Internet denizens to talk you out of buying a bike -- a sweet, sexy wonderful machine with an engine that sounds like angels singing?

You are a silly, silly man.

Buy it if you like it. I rode an older model and loved it, but to my eyes, they messed up the new design bad enough that I decided against it. BTW, their KYB suspension sucks, R-spec or not... You might as well cough up another $1K and put an Ohlins on it.

Regardless, to me, MV Agusta Brutale is a much better looking machine, with more character.

I'd wait for the Yamaha FZ-09 to come out and compare the two. Throw the Brutale in there, too (if you can find one.)

Just do it - I have a '12 Streety R and I love everything about it, including the headlights. And the noise - oh god, the noise. This is me every day on my commute (well, this isn't actually me, but I giggle just like this guy):
