Horn not working, not fuse.

My girls 2012 250's horn is not working. I checked the fuse and even swapped it with a spare, no luck. I can see the headlights/dash dim when I press the switch for the horn.

I dont have my volt meter on me will grab it monday but I guess my next step to see if the horn is getting power and get a new horn? If its not getting power possibly assume the switch?

That sounds like a good trouble shooting plan.

See if you have voltage when you press the horn button, if you have voltage the horn is bad.

Had that problem on my daughters bike. Advance Auto has a generic disc horn in low or high tones that fits perfectly. Cost is about $15.

If the headlights dim when pressing the switch that is a pretty good sign that the horn is getting power, not a bad idea to double check (maybe an unlikely short-would probably have blown fuse though if shorted)

If the headlight dims, the coil in the horn is shorted.

Time for a new one.

The horn circuit is about as simple as they get. Power from the fuse on the brown/white wire to the horn, then to the switch on the black/white, and the switch connects to the common black/yellow ground to complete the circuit.

If you have 12V between the two horn wires when you press the button, the circuit is good. As stated, if the headlight dims, that indicates that it's drawing power, so it's probably the horn itself.

I upgraded my 500 with a Wolo 300-2T (Amazon, O'Reilly) a few months after I got the bike.

The horn and its mounting stud are a little bigger than stock, and the bracket is a bit longer. I simply drilled a new hole in the Wolo bracket to match the distance to the hole on the stock bracket, and bolted it right in under the triple.

It's a small bit louder and lower. Instead of sounding like a scooter horn, it now sounds like a subcompact car horn. Definitely not an upgrade like a Stebel, but it's much cheaper and a bolt-in replacement.

Was a bad horn, thew new horn sounds awesome. Ill need to transfer it over to the other bracket or do something. You said "bolted it right under the triple", did you not use the same mounting location?

That's the stock location on a 500. I wasn't sure if the 250 (either version) used that location or not.

The new one was really similar to the stock mounting setup, but the larger stud on the new horn wouldn't fit the stock bracket, and the new bracket was longer so it wasn't a perfect bolt-in. The easiest option for me was just drilling another hole in the new bracket to match the stock length. It looks like the NewGen has a similar little bracket, so you might be able to do something similar.

This lmao

Hey I ended up just taking the horn off its aftermarket bracket and putting it on the OEM bracket. The hole is big enough if you remove a washer, no drilling required.
