Yamaha FZR250 3LN6

Birthday present for myself. Needs some work but almost have 2 full sets of fairings. The Ninja is still my all-around get-anywhere bike, this FZR is just a project

So this bike has turned out to be a 3LN6! Slightly rarer and has different carbs to the 3LN5 and older models.

I love that bike. I don't think that 250 even came out in the U.S. Those were the Golden Age of the 1/4 liter bikes. 4 cylinder-high winding motors-aluminum frame.

New chain & sprockets have been ordered.
Fairing screen ordered
Looking at tyres next fortnight, will most likely go with Pirelli sport demons

So this is what the old oil looked like in the FZR... all 500ml of it

There's also some nice paint under all that grime

Triumph was also getting some love...

It's always nice to see a bike like that get resurrected. I hope it'll have a much better life with you than the previous owner.

The sport demons are good tires, I feel as though they're not as sticky as I want them to be though but that's for track riding. They're just fine for street riding and will give you good feel.

I'll post pictures later when I get them but, the chains and sprockets have arrived.

I've ordered new grips which arrived. Also ordered fork seals, choke assembly (as mine is missing) and some nice seat covers from the UK.

Once the pics are in it will probably be the last update for the year.

Not really much of an update... new chain and sprockets arrived, the front sprocket on the 3LN3 and newer FZR250R's has some weird spacer/washer that the older models don't have. The older ones have a shorter shaft as well

Pic of said spacer:

Bought new grips and some new bar ends... new seat covers, mostly cosmetic crap apart from a fork seal kit (will need doing on the Ninja as well)

Anyway

I bought another one
This one doesn't run yet. First order of business is getting it transported to my place or my mechanic. It will likely need the carbs cracked open and cleaned. Drop the oil and change the filter.

This one is a 3LN3 with the full 45 horses and 18.5k RPM redline

An unrestricted CBR250RR can hit 60BHP without a turbo

The FZR 3LN3 is 45BHP stock, 3LN6 is 40HP
