Dyno build
I must be crazy, another project!
For those interested keep your eye on my blog for a motorcycle dyno build. http://swarfman64.blogspot.com.au/20...rtia-dyno.html This one won't go as fast as the turbo gpx build but I will try to keep it rolling. Most if not all will be built at work so actual paying jobs will hinder its progress and I'm limited in after hours time (that family/life thing). Basically I'm building an inertia dyno with Performance trends logging. I've got almost everything gathered and time is really the only limiting factor.

1000 for logger, 1200 steel (hollow bar was 800 bucks alone) another 1000 for bearings, computer, paint etc etc, I'm thinking 3000 to 4000 doing everything myself. It will add up if you have to pay someone to build the roller. There's probibly 2000 in machining that alone. All Aussie dollars.
dyno session is about 350 buck here, so by the time I've tuned my bike (about 10 tunes) and I've covered the cost

The engine is generally tested from somewhat above idle to its maximum RPM and the output is measured and plotted on a graph." Does that mean that the equipment will only measure power output during acceleration?

Andrew again a good plan and project from you but may I ask if you plan the usage of a 'CO-Gas Analyzer' also?

Not at this stage, just a wide band through the logger. As time, need and money show themselves I will option it with some good accessories. For now I'll get away with the basics.

This dyno isn't doing work productivity any good. Oh well.
![]() IMG_4318.jpg Roller is assembled,260kg, almost 12kg/m2 inertia, 600Hp capable, should just be big enough for tha turbo ninja. ![]()

A little more progress, Work is keeping me busy but I'm getting there slowly.
I'm at the point in the turbo 250 where the dyno is needed, see what Easter brings IMG_4535.jpg As always, more here....http://swarfman64.blogspot.com.au/20...rtia-dyno.html

Another update. I found a little time in a hectic life to begin the data logger installation. I'm waiting on a few cables but should have the wiring complete in a week or so. There's a UPS in a drawer and a dock to take the laptop. I have a portable two plane dynamic balancer on its way from Europe which I can use to can check the roller balance in situ.
The banners are made and off to the signwriter, they are fastened at the top but clipped on the bottom to give good access when strapping. That will leave only the brake disk and master cylinder (for slowing down between runs) to do. ![]()

I'm back. well not really....As you get older "stuff" gets in the way of a good project. The turbo is on hold until the dyno is buit and the dyno's on hold till the balancer is built and its all gotta happen in between Kids, work etc etc money permitting. So, what I have managed to do is build the dynamic balancer for the dyno inertia roller. I still have the electronics to sort out but the mechanics is done. I've built it so it can be used at work for other things like spindles and shafts (my excuse/justification to build it). The dyno is 100% complete now with the brake fitted and the wiring finished, I've even fired the computer and the two screens up. The roller balancing is the last thing to do. Its all here if your interested. http://swarfman64.blogspot.com.au/20...-balancer.html

might want to have a top half bearing that can close over your shaft. Just saying, you don't want to see what happens when that shaft hops off of your balancer at speed.
Our balance machine at work has top half bearings that clamp over your shaft. It's also got a brick wall built around it... Just in case. Then again, we balance impeller/shaft combos that weigh upwards of 100 lbs at anywhere from 300-5000 rpm soooooo... Idk what your setup weighs that's being balanced but if you're going to use this thing at work, I'd hazzard a guess that OSHA rules about machine guards and safety measures should be followed. |
