I sorta like the stock bike, but damn some of these customs are hot. I especially like the second bike they show.

What do you guys think? It's the first HD I'v liked since the XR1200.

It's alright I guess. There is something not quite right with that radiator and that whole area to me.

Are those engines actually 750 and 500 cc respectively? I've been waiting for Harley to make something smaller. I do kinda like the look of the white one.


Lol at the fact that they're using carbon as trim, yet the frame or engine probably still weighs a ton. Putting the cart before the horse much? Haha.


Edit. Only 480 lbs. 500cc or 750cc and is considered their 'learner' bike and likely would make you the armpit of a bunch of manly man jokes at the dealership if you went to look at one. Is still be interested in checking them out though. The price looks decent even.

I think Harley is doing a lot of good things recently (liquid cooling and embracing some newer technology) and these new small bikes have a lot of potential in their own markets (India and the East). The big problem is the "Harley Stigma" for small bikes and "girl bikes" and such.

Personally the learner bike stigma wouldn't bother me. I find the people I tend to ride with don't care what I'm on as long as it has two wheels.

Funny thing is that back in the day the HD XR-750 was a bada$$ bike. Certainly not something you would have been told was a girls bike.

Have any of you guys had a chance to ride the 883 sportster? It sucks. Its ninja 250 slow for sure and is geared a wee bit short for freeway use. There are other reasons I would definitely not recommend buying one. Especially new. Even for a noob. The 1200 is the way to go.

I know they are water cooled now so hopefully its making 50hp to the crank. It would put it in the 1200 sportster ball park. And the lightweight, compared to the sportster at 580 lbs will make the thing feel a whole lot better on the brakes. And Harley's are weird. Over 7 mph even the big ass full dressers are easy to do low speed maneuvers with. And those things are straight up almost 1000 lbs.

This bike was clearly made for the overseas market. The ultra-conservative/leather-vest/grizzled beard/Amurricuh! guys are too hidebound and narrow-minded to accept a bike this small. Heck, they see the 883 as a bike for p*ssies.

I'd bet they'll buy a few... for their girlfriends and daughters.

If you are correct it will be very weird to have Harleys on the road that are sport bike fast. If so I'll let them shoot ahead of me on the highway, etc, and have the cops chase them down. I bet this will happen a lot as guys try to show up the sport bikes and pass them. Then they can tell their friends about passing a slow sport bike.

Even if they are fast as hell I bet they won't turn that great in comparison.

Looks like an interesting bike. I like how different companies are making smaller bikes these days. Lots of choices is a good thing, and will help get more people into motorcycling. The white one is cool looking to me. Nice find Benji.

I like the look of them, they don't weigh that much either and price looks alright. 480lbs wet is about what you'd expect from a smaller sport touring bike or an older literbike right? If they could get some decent performance from those engines I think they'd be a lot of fun to ride! As for any **** from "real" Harley guys, I could care less. These bikes will probably be quicker than stock big twins, especially when they have 400-700lbs of American beef on top of them. Oh and they'll handle and stop better too, so I don't see why you would hate on them for being small.

I think they look pretty cool. HD's problem is that "cool looking", to most of their American market, is based on displacement.

54hp/44tq/480lbs/$7,500. Not too bad if you ask me.

Obviously, it won't be too fast, but with it being so much lighter than a Sporty and have a decent amount of torque I bet it'll cruise around town nicely.

I'd want to find a way to drop 20+ lbs. But yeah, that doesn't sound too bad at all. I could see myself at least giving one of those bikes a fair test ride.

I took part in Harley's test ride of the 2014 models a couple of months ago and was severely disappointed in the bikes and attitudes of people there representing the brand. I was actually considering selling my DR-Z400SM for a cruiser (possibly an 883 or Star Bolt 950). The 883 wasn't available for a test ride so I tried the 1200cc Forty Eight. Must admit I liked the styling but that was the only thing the bike had going for it. Sorry for the rant. Time to say something nice. I dig the look of this custom based on the new models:

I think at least the 500cc bike is being developed specifically for the Indian market and will also be manufactured here... How the quality turns out remains to be seen... As unfortunate as it is, India isn't exactly known for its "high quality" products...

Right, and at that price point that quality probably won't be high. I mean the 750 is going to be cheaper, faster, & lighter than the 883. Those three words don't usually go together.

On a positive note at least the US spec 750s will be assembled in Kansas, that might helped with quality a little bit.

I'll be test riding one regardless when spring time comes. I'v actually never been on a cruiser other than a Honda Rebel and I'm curious to see how it stacks up to my FZ6 just cruising around town (since can I rarely make it over 6,000 RPM without break the speed limit).

Neutering a harley down to 700 is barely gonna be highway capable, and a 500 wont be good for anything but in town trips to burger king.

Until Harley drops a inline 4 in one of their bikes....I'll pass.

They're trying to make a cheap bike to get volume sales in countries like India where 99% of all bikes are below 150cc... I approve, I'm sure I'll que up to buy something like the RD 800... The white one with the blue racing stripes...

Specs don't tell the whole story. The specs on the 883 look great until you put rubber to road....and then you just have to laugh.

The 883 does 0-60 in under 6 seconds and tops out at over 100 mph. Seems road worthy to me, most cars can't do that. The 750 adds 7 HP and drops 70 lbs. I'm pretty sure it's going to be more than adequate for "cruising". Hell, our 250s are adequate for cruising and they have no where near the torque numbers that these bikes put out.

I liked the old ascots. One friend raced the VT and the other the FT. He still has the built FT in storage.
