Recently discovered a sticky float valve and cracked fuel lines. Already replaced the fuel lines, cleaned everything thoroughly. Forgot to order replacement float valves. Just ordered the whole kit. May as well do it all at once. |

Went for a ride! (last Sunday, sorry a bit belated). Getting a mild spell here - the mid afternoon temperature was 46 F. Another month or so until the snow completely disappears -

Stripped her down, fussed with the speedo canle, changed the oil, and checked the chain. An artic wind came from somewhere so since she's already nekkid, trying to figure out what else to muck with.

Attempted to contort myself and see if I could replace the gauge cluster bulbs with LED units without taking anything off. Managed to only replace two until I realized I was installing the wrong color. FAIL..

I started ordering parts for the upcoming 7500 mile service. It's only 1300 miles shy of the mark now. I also received my Rapid Transit Recon 19L magnetic tank bag with hydration pack today. With all the 100+ days we get here in TX, I figure the hydration pack will be a bonus during the summer months.

Kept working on my projector retrofit. Mounting plate is done. Time for a cosmetic plate, trimming the shroud, and finishing my vacuum table to make my lens.
Not pretty, but it works: |

Tried to turn it on with no luck. Killed the battery instead.
Guess leaving it parked in the driveway for a few months without ever turning it on was a horrible idea... I always wanted to learn how to clean the carburetor anyways. |

I ordered the battery tender junior from Amazon so it should be here by Saturday. I plan on taking it apart on Saturday and taking the carburetor out. A buddy of mine is helping me clean it on Sunday and then hopefully it starts up fine so I can do a tune up on it and get it ready to sell or at least ride again.

To store it so it will start when you are ready to ride again you need to do a few things. Add a fuel stabilizer and fill the tank to the top. Drain the floatbowls. Remove the battery and charge it occasionally or use a tender. If you want the best protection from internal rust and corrosion, change the oil and filter, then start it and run it for 30 seconds before draining the floatbowls. That circulates the fresh oil and protects against corrosion. Don't start it again until you are ready to ride. |

Pulled the fairing to replace the gauge lights with LEDs. I kept the regular bulbs in the water temp and the turn signal light. the water temp lens was just too near the the led bulb to light it up properly and the turn signal indicator only blinked for one side and not the other probably because I didn't have the front turn signals hooked up.

O'Reilly's tested my battery and it came out to be a bad. I plan to keep using it until it really can't crank over anymore even with push starting it.
Also the motor is making an odd noise. Can't make out if its the cam chain slappin or the tensioner going out. I'm due for a valve check anyways. http://youtu.be/S3Z6RM5no6s

Lost my Sport Touring windscreen this morning on my way into work. Hit a big bump in the road and it flew up into my visor. Aparently I forgot to put back in the screws when I pulled the fairings off. Fail once again.

I would be real lucky to find it whole when I get out of work. It was dark and I couldn't even see it when I looped back. It doesn't help that there was traffic too so it could have been in pieces.

Haha yeah no not that many miles. I am curious when I reach 100k, if the decimal will just vanish or if it will "roll over" back to zero.

Finally got around to properly installing the new master cylinder and bleeding the lines. Had some trouble introducing brake fluid into the new system but I sort of figured it out eventually. I ended up reverse bleeding the line to force fluid into the mc when my hose popped off...
The brakes are still super spongy and pretty much ineffective but at least there's pressure now. I'm just going to finish up with the rest of the bike and then come back to it. I'm sure there's just a ton of air cached away in little places. |

Added hazard flashers via OEM part, plug-n-play, no cutting.
Removed carburetors to replace float valves, due to one got stuck open, read link below. The pictures below shows the benefits of using a fuel filter. All pictures were taken just after I removed the bowls, no cleaning was done. Also are pictures of the float valves new/old, as you can see the old ones are shot. I know what your thinking, "Hey Ghostt we thought you rebuilt those back in the spring time last year?" Confession: I didn't, and don't ask me why, when I did everything else on the bike. I did my full meticulous carburetor service minus the consumables, I still have no idea why I didn't???

What parts are needed for this?
I was thinking of swapping my left-hand controls for those off of the 300. The intent here is the flash-to-pass trigger. If they include an emergency flasher function, I'd be even happier. |

The indicator is actually hooked to the +12V wire on each side. It uses the active side's wire for power and the off side's wire for ground, as there's a voltage differential between the two. With the flashers on, both sides have +12V, so there's no voltage differential, so the indicator doesn't light up. Since the power flows in opposite directions depending on which side is on, that also means an LED bulb for the indicator will only work for one side (and only for the other side if you reverse the polarity).
