Why You Shouldn't Buy Ebay Helmets

Or hit them with hammers for that matter :P
Personally I wouldn't get either helmet, but I would prefer the one that doesn't shatter...

I could hardly make it through the video because of the kid in the background. But how do you know the first lid was from ebay? Both from ebay?

At least the 2nd one didn't explode on impact.

I'm sorry, I just checked ebay and didn't see either of those brands. I had it confused with the brand "TMS". You can buy those helmets on ebay for $30 including shipping.

I tried to edit the title but it's too late!

not impressed by this test- odds of getting hit by a 3lb sledgehammer on the road are pretty slim imho...

I think you'd be surprised at how similar the helmet safety standard tests are to a 3 lb sledge hitting you in the head.

I also wonder how old that helmet that shattered actually is. Plastics get brittle over time with UV exposure and exposure to other solvents. I wouldn't be too surprised to see a reputable brand plastic (not fiberglass) helmet that's been improperly stored and subject to too much UV to shatter after 10 years.
