You spotted the vehicle beforehand, hopefully. If so, just use the "out" you planned in the event the driver makes a move.

If you only saw the vehicle as they began pulling out you only have evasion and brAkes as your allies.

I assume tailgating. 10-15 feet from a car that pulls out in front of you is not enough time to react at any speed.

Frankly tailgating rarely happens to me because I'm very conscious of such things and ride so as to avoid them. I also tend to ride a bit faster than the pace of traffic, but within reason.

But if it happens.... I get out of the way, either by moving over or asking Sulu for warp nine. Let that guy run point for me and get the ticket. I do it all the time. Let him by, allow him to pull a lead of several hundred yards, then fall in behind.

If I'm boxed and can't get out of the way, I use the hand pushing back gesture to politely ask him to back off, making it clear that I can't go anywhere (and therefore neither can he).

If he persists, I'll repeat, a bit more pointedly.

If that doesn't work, I'll give him a small non-brake brake check. Lights on without actually applying the brake, by pulling the lever or pressing the pedal just a bit.

If after all that he's STILL being an a$$hat, I'll actually apply the brakes for a split second. One of the nice things about a bike is that you can make it visibly lurch without actually slowing down much at all. That FREAKS people out.

It's also easy to let people know they've wronged you, without being really confrontational about it. Bike headlights are higher up than car lights, so if the driver is in anything less than a big SUV or pickup, your high beam will blast them right smack in the rear view mirror. So just get behind them and stay there for, oh, as long as you like, treating them to some retina-burning levels of light.

If I'm in a situation where I'm being tailgated and there's no easy way to escape, I weave slightly in my lane. I find this is very effective for getting tailgaters to back off; they don't know what's up and stay back.

Change lanes, pull over, pull into a parking lot, make a turn, wave backwards at them asking them to back off, weave in the lane, flash the brake lights, turn my head and stare at them, or wait until they get close enough to pull out my machete and slash their front tires.

How many hundreds are we talking about? That's the length of more than 1 football field!

BINGO!!!! I've been doing this for over 15 years driving. Weave a bit and they back off. Or I act drunk. I slowly drift to the left of my lane, then jerk back quickly so I am centered again. Then drift to the right portion of the land and suddenly jerk back center again. (Again, this is with driving).

While riding, I normally flick the bars rapidly (push pull push pull push pull). And I create a few quick wobbles. Freaks them out and they back off immediately.

Close enough to keep them in sight but far enough to let me slow and avoid being nabbed by the cop who's out there waiting to nab speeders.

If I just form a convoy with the guy, the cop will get me instead of him.

clutch up wheelie.... solves most problems and if it doesn't at least you look pretty bad ass before crashing and then you can also blame your crash on "attempting a new stunt" and not being a s****y rider

I don't sweat the tailgaters much, it's the slow asshat's in front that maintain the same speed as the person next to them, and can't make up their own mind as to what speed to drive at that concern me more. I'll switch lanes to let those by that feel the need to go faster than myself to be the cop magnet.
