Hi from Connecticut

I bought a 2005 Ninja 250 back around 2008 or so and never rode it. The bike only has 38 original miles on it and it's been garaged all its life. I bought the bike to learn how to ride, but life gets in the way and it ends up sitting there. Anyway, I'm in the process of getting it running again and I'm pretty sure I'm going to need to lean on the know-how that members on here possess. I'll do my best help others, too.

Greetings and welcome!

A few of us are in CT. I'm in Trumbull, which is just north of Bridgeport. Whereabouts are you?

Thanks for the welcome, guys. Glad to be here.

adouglas: Hey I'm right nearby in Fairfield.

dcj13: Thanks. I've gotta look into the spark tomorrow. Hopefully I can get it running then.

Welcome Nay, make sure battery is good and fully charged and oil looks decent and there is enough of it before starting. Any gas in tank? see about draining it first and rinsing it out with fresh 87 octane. Hopefully she starts right up.

Thanks, Winston. Looks like I'm going to need to replace the bike's original battery. In the meantime I'm using a charger/starter to crank the bike. Oil is good; I drained the old gas and swirled fresh gas in the tank and still won't start. I'm going to re-clean the carbs and check the plugs tomorrow.

If it's been sitting that long I'd change all fluids immediately... oil, coolant and brake fluid in addition to fuel. Also inspect anything made of rubber or plastic for hardening/cracking. Hoses, brake lines, tires, plug wires... everything. Age and ozone are not kind to that kind of stuff. Much worse if the bike has been exposed to sunlight.

Has it been sitting on its tires for all those years? That could be a problem.

I have a tire changer and wheel balancer and would be glad to help you put on new donuts if you like.

Good advice, thanks. I plan to get all of the fluids changed over the next week or so. The bike has been garaged all of its life and it only has 38 miles. All plastics, hoses, etc still look and feel new. The bike has been up on the center stand all this time and I had a piece of wood under the front fork that just lifted the front tire off the ground. But I know that tires will lose their effectiveness just from age so I do plan to get new tires and thanks, I will probably take you up on your offer to help replace them. I appreciate that.
