Yeah but our Ninjas are so quiet sometimes it is hard to hear its running. (guilty of trying to start a running bike.)

It's not just HD guys. There is this cat at the track that revs his gsxr at least for 10 mins before his sessions. I am NOT exaggerating either. Not sure why he does it, but it gets highly annoying after about 1 or 2 mins.

Tell me about it! I'm in New Berlin right near "Hals House of Harley Davidson". They are having a few nights of partying for the 110th anniversary. I was hearing revving all through the night and I live a few miles away and still was hearing it.

Turning the white noise machine helped out, so I'm not mad at the HD guys. I got right to sleep.

Even now I am hearing rumbling all the time - some pretty loud bikes out there today!

I wonder when all the stupid harley bashing jokes will start to fade away. Okay kind of funny at first but once you've heard them all a billion times it's kind of annoying. Have any of you actually ridden a harley? They aren't bad bikes. There's just as many douchebags out there on sportbikes as there are on harleys.

Since I've had numerous Harley Davidson Motorcycles and made a profit everytime I sold one and owning stock in Harley Davidson and making a huge profit I think the joke is on the jokers. Besides, I've never had a bad Harley. They all have been reliable and fun to ride.

We are all motorcyclists, can't we all just get along!

It's not the bikes, it's the worthless lumps of flesh that lop off the exhaust and bolt on a couple feet of straight pipe (to any bike) then proceed to rev it over and over and make it impossible to hold a conversation on the other side of the parking lot.

It should really be legal to throw a punch at these twats. Every rev it's like the person is running up to you and screaming in your ear and they do it to everyone in the area at once. The only upshot is most of these wastes don't bother with helmets around here...

There are a lot, and I do mean a lot, of Harley riders in the Abate chapter I go to. As far as I can tell, Harley riders generally have loud pipes because of false beliefs that A) Loud pipes are cool; and B) loud pipes make you safer. Both are generally regarded as false, but people ride with loud pipes all the time.

And to add insult to injury, a cop actually yelled at me one time because my Ninja was too quiet. He was probably a Harley rider too.

The only thing that annoys me about Harley Davidson bikes is that people buy Harley Davidson to own a Harley Davidson.

People don't buy a Harley Davidson because they are good, they buy them to buy into a lifestyle and branding.

I actually grew up around Harley's and kinda thought I wanted one for a long time. When I rode with my feet out in front of me it felt absolutely terrible. I got into the ninjette world by accident and couldn't be happier about it. Sometimes what you think you want and what you actually want are completely different.
Realize the fun factor of this thread but just saying in seriousness I had no idea what I actually liked until I actually rode. Ya dig? lol

Cruisers have footrests up front so their feet are WAY out front. When they approach from the opposite direction, they look just like they are giving birth. Not a cool posture IMHO. Plus, there is no way to get up on the pegs when you hit a speed bump at 90 mph.

Harleys are such terrible bikes, my dads only has over 50,000 miles on it and runs without issue. A lot of people actually buy a Harley to have a nice cruiser, not just to get into the HD clique. There's even members on this forum who have transitioned from the ninjette to an HD and love it.

When I get old enough, I can honestly see myself riding around on a touring bike like a goldwing or equivalent. I think I'll skip the cruiser phase altogether and just keep my Ninja.

I rode up to a diner in my beat-up 1981 cx500 and a row of gleaming spotless harleys were lined up, 5 or 6 of them. The bikes were perfect. Then I go inside and I had to suppress my laughter. All these guys were decked out perfectly in harley gear, I mean, like a commercial. They looked the part to a T. I was in the middle of a day-long ride, and they probably lived down the street. But they were having fun hanging out. *Shrug* who am I to judge them? I was having fun on my long ride, they were having fun dressing up as Harley guys and riding to lunch, whatever.

Would anyone put Indian motorcycle owners in the category as Harley owners? Indian owners IMHO seem to be less interested in attracting attention to themselves.

They made a movie about that a few years ago with Tim Allen - "Wild Hogs". You pretty much described the plot right there.

Some folks get motorcycles for show and others to ride. I met a guy on the road with a custom bike. Chrome everything. He had a Ford V8 engine on the thing. I waved when I passed him. I'm not sure if he wants to ride it or pull a camper with it. I suspect it sits 99% of the time. If you like chrome, you would have liked that bike.

Way too much profiling going on here. There are many professionals who ride Harleys (because they can afford too). There are also tons of dirt bags riding sportbikes.

When I started riding everyone waved to each other and as long as you were on a bike you belonged to the group of "riders". Everyone helped each other and no one was better than the other. Just remember everyone loves their bike as much as you love yours.

My neighbor across the street rides a Harley and I can barely hear it start up. He's a super guy.

That said, I've run into the douches too. Lots of them. But it's not all of them - I think it's just that the jerks stand out so much.

This thread derailed soo fast from the point I was trying to make.

I always noticed Harley riders to do just what I posted. I found it funny because I had a chance to take a modified one for a ride. Sure enough, wouldn't you know, I'm cracking the throttle after starting it. Guilty lol

I never do it on the ninja. Matter of fact , I just recently remembered a thread where horn versus rev limiter was discussed. I never tried that but I did hit the limiter going from 1-2/2-3 a few times.

I just thought it was funny

Do many Harley models have a tach? I don't remember if the Vulcan I test-rode had a tach or not. Typically I just shift when it feels right, but not having a tach would make me nuts when commuting/watching my gas mileage.

Vulcans are Kawasakis and not harleys. I don't think they have tachs. None of the cruisers I have seen had factory tachs, but a few had aftermarket tachs. That is strange considering that most cruisers are going to redline way down around 4-5K. I'm assuming that they must have some kind of rev limiter so that people don't burn them out.

I don't remember if the touring bikes I looked at had tachs, but they probably did because they had everything else.

When v twins start up i suppose they feel like they're idling low.
Rather than have the motor die and have to kick start it again they give it a couple of light revs.

Shouldn't have to do it much on the new harleys, they are pretty much all efi and electric start

Yes, thank you for clearing up something I already knew. You know, because I rode that at a Kawi demo day.

Just used the Vulcan as a reference because they're going for the same market.
