Heyo everybody!
Hey guys (and gals)!
So for a really long time I've wanted a motorcycle. I nearly got one right out of high school, but that plan fell apart pretty quickly. Well with a bit of help from my tax refund and my girlfriend, I was able to purchase my 2008 ninja 250! Even now I look out in my driveway and can't believe I actually own a bike. SUPER exciting for me It has some work I have to do on it, but I'm pretty mechanically inclined and don't think I'll have too much trouble with it. I'll make sure to post some pictures later! |

Thanks Chris! It really is completely different than anything I've experienced. I've ridden up and down my street quite a few times, but I really don't want to do anything too crazy until I take the MSF course (in about 2 weeks).

Welcome, here are just a few things to think about,
1.Get trained and licensed MSF Courses 2.ALWAYS Wear protective gear -- ATGATT All The Gear, All The Time -- including a helmet manufactured to the standards set by a government agency. 3.ALWAYS Ride unimpaired by alcohol or other drugs 4.ALWAYS Ride within your own skill limits 5.Be a lifelong learner by taking refresher rider courses, and advanced rider course A.R.C* A.T.G.A.T.T. so I may ride another day. www.rockthegear.org

Thanks for all the welcomes! I really do have safety first, I've already registered for the MSF course and don't plan on doing any real riding until I feel comfortable. The way I've told my girlfriend and family is that I've wanted a motorcycle for a long time...I want to have fun on it for a long time. I don't really plan on being a dumb ass on it

Welcome!
The MSF course is definitely recommended, although it didn't really teach me too much since I took it about 4 months after I had been riding (lol) but it was a great way to get my license and save on my insurance. Gear is important but I also understand budget... if I were you I would try to invest at least $100 in a helmet, only buy a brand name like HJC, Bell, shoei (if you can afford), etc. My first helmet ran me $80 and was from amazon, no brand name just a DOT sticker and it was heavy (module) and I basically only bought it cause it had a tinted shield... it was really sketchy though so I ended up buying a HJC-17 which is snell rated. Also buy from a store if you can... it's MUCH better to know you fit well. Next i'd try to get gloves, you don't need anything fancy a $25 short cuff pair will suffice for now... but if you can stretch your dollar a little more try to get some gauntlet gloves but they are a little pricier $50+ Finally i'd get the jacket, try to spend about $150 for a good quality jacket. Boots would be next, I don't really have any I can recommend but there are tons of threads/reviews/videos on them for you to look at. Pants would be last, these are important! But I would rate it at the bottom, none-the-less get yourself some good pants! Also buy a pack of ear plugs, you can get like 50 pairs for $10, you want to protect your ears... and no a full face helmet is not enough to protect your hearing.. Stay safe!

Hey I finally got a photo uploaded! I'll grab some more, but I've been too busy to actually take many pictures
The previous owner messed it up (in my opinion) by trying to go with the street-fighter look. I'm ok with it being naked, since I'm still probably going to drop it a few times but I really hate the front end. |
