From Tempe, AZ

Hey! I am a new member, just found this site today. I am thinking about getting into motorcycling, and looking at Ninja 250's.

I am pretty short though, for a dude (5'2.5") and I am a little worried I wont be able to foot it. I have read that doesn't matter that much though, except in specific cases.

I am also looking at a Buell Blast, mainly because I read the seat height can be as low as 25"!

Anyway, looking forward to reading about the Ninja and peoples experiences with it here, and probably going to take the class locally in a couple of months!

Welcome from Avondale, AZ! Check out the pregens because they have a slightly lower seat height. It's a small difference, but I can tell that my 2012 is higher than my 07 was, plus the 07 seemed to have a narrower seat so it felt even lower.

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

massacremasses wow, I cant believe its that tall...from what I read, all kinds of people around 5" can ride the 250! The seat height is supposedly only 29.3 for gen3 vs 30.5 for gen 4. I guess it makes a difference...
Does anyone have any experience with the Buell Blast? I am not that interested in it, but if the ninja is that tall, I may have no choice. I have read lowering the ninja is a bad idea, and taking a lot of foam out of the seat might help, but wont that hurt your ass on long rides?

Welcome from Phoenix, Az. The Buell's are sweet I think there a little heavier then the ninja, not that it matters. But both are great bikes. Go to a dealer and sit on both when you get the chance.

What ever you decide Have Fun and Ride Safe!!!!!!!!!

Im going to have to go sit on it again... lol cause now im questioning myself, but yeah im pretty sure I cant put my feet down flat. Im close but for the most part on the balls of my feet, but my legs are fairly short. But I would suggest going to a dealer just to sit on bikes and get a feel for it...

Im not sure if lowering is bad, my buddy lowered his R6 so he could sit on it better but of course thats a completely different bike.

Thanks again for the welcome!

I just read somewhere that lowering messed up the suspension geometry, and you shouldn't do it unless you lower the front and back....then I read that you cant lower the front of the ninja...

I will have to get to a dealer and check out the new Ninja, but I was more interested in the older one anyway, since its cheaper....I imagine Ill probably drop it at some point :-)

I drove my friends small 1980's Honda 250 several times maybe 15 years ago ...I remember at one point going around in a parking lot and getting too cocky, going to fast around a corner and then dumping it! I remember picking gravel out of my hands for a couple hours, and sitting through a movie right after with bloody hands....not fun.

But, I am ready to try again :-)

You can lower both the front and the rear of the ninjette, but going much more than 1 - 1.5" starts to cause issues, especially on the rear. (the shock needs to be run quite stiff, otherwise sharp bumps can cause the wheel to interfere with the undertail, rubbing right through the plastic).

Check out our wiki and the DIY thread at the top of the tech section which have articles on lowering the bike.

Welcome to our site, Justin !!!

Take the class first and then decide on the bike; they normally have Ninjas and lower bikes.

We'll almost 3 years later and I finally Bought a 2007 250R with 15k miles for $1200 off CL!

I still have to take the MSF class in the next month, but in the mean time I want to go over the bike and make sure it's systems are all kosher...I dot have any previous maintenance history so I am assuming nothing has been done! any suggestions? Oh yeah and I can barely touch tip toes on both sides so that will be fun! thanks!

Congrats on the bike!

A lowered seat may be a option for you. if you dont want to go with the lowering kits. My 2012 250 had the kit on it and my currant 300 has one to, its dropped about an inch.

I have a Saddlemen low seat an love it. I dont know if they made/make any for the 07s though.

Good luck!

I gathered that much. I'm not smart enough to understand all the reports, but I do love hearing about recent discoveries that add to or change our understanding of the past. I was invovled with a local group that documents our rock art and took a few anthropology classes in college to try ot better understand the Great Basin's prehistory.

Even made friends with a local archaeologist who's offered to take me to a few sites.
