Nice to be here!

Well, wild child that I am I finally got my midlife crisis bike. It's a bone stock (except for some scratches and a crack that I didn't have to pay extra for) 2011 in black. I debated long and hard between a 250r and the 300/ABS and went low tech in the end. I thought if I learned to ride with all the nice technology I'd teach myself some bad habits which might get me in trouble later. Maybe I'm right, maybe not. This will be a fun/commuter bike with some light touring next year.
I haven't ridden a bike (other than the MSF course) since high school so I'll ramp up slow in the neighborhood and parking lots. Some day, I'll get a sport touring bike but that's for later after I learn what I want from experience.
For now, the only mods I'm planning on would be for safety or comfort (lights and seat) I'd like to get some fairing repair skills over there winter. There is an R-title dealer nearby. I'm hoping he has some dumpster-grade pieces I could practice on.
Glad this forum is here with all the good info. Hope you all put your side stand down at the end of every ride.

If you're over 60 you should plan on learning to do never ending wheelies and learn to do stoppies. That way the kids will leave you alone. Also get a helmet with a mohawk on it.

only time I wish I had abs is when I lock up the bakes, oddly it's all been fine so far and manageable!

Thanks for the welcome! Just to clarify, I'm a 1960 model year. Not quite 60 yet. Yeah, wheelies ... couldn't do them on a bicycle ... is it easier with a motor? Love the Minnie Pearl link!
