Wow wow wow!! Amazing! I've never been a fan of big bikes. Always afraid the power would kill me but this is something else. I still wouldn't want one for everyday riding, but as a weekend track bike, it has it all.. Anti-skid, automatic dampening of the shocks depending on road conditions and a smart computer that records your lap times and tells you everything you can improve about your riding..now that's something special. Way to go Yamaha..big big

My favorite quote went something like this: "About to miss the apex, no worries, point the bike where you want it to go, and the new R1 will adjust and do the rest" Dope!

Seems like a really good bike, no point for the R3 now. Just buy this as your first bike and crank the electronics way up. I know that's what I'll be doing.

I think this will be one of the most exciting bikes this year. Interesting that Japanese bikes never seem to allow you to turn off abs. Not that I mind but some might.

It will be even more exciting when this technology percolates to smaller bikes.

Right now the technology costs more than our bikes... There's a $5500 difference between the R1 and R1M.. With our power output, I doubt it's necessary and will probably take the fun out of riding. Having a smart ECU record lap times and give us feedback would be real nice though!

Most of the cost is R&D. Hardware-wise, it could entirely run on iPhone. Actually, I am surprised there isn't an app for that already...

And your source for this information comes from where?

From reading of their PR materials. "six-axis “Inertial Measurement Unit” (IMU) system that specifically measures pitch, roll, yaw, an acceleration of the bike through the use of gyros and accelerometers." - this is exactly what they have in iPhone or in your average Android phone. Plus CPU and GPS.

Liter bikes are so overkill and not worth all the baggage that comes with owning one...
