Do it yourself. Buy the factory service manual and follow all instructions exactly. If you're cheap you can download it online for free, but it's WAY nicer to have the book in your hand instead of having to run back and forth to the computer. Even if you can't wait to download it, check out the Ninja 250 wiki. That will get you through nearly anything you would need to do to your bike.

$0 do it yourself! It's super simple and a great way to get to know your bike. I believe there is a sticky somewhere that will help you out and we will be here to answer any questions you have along the way.

I paid $265.52 for my first service. I have no desire to do myself what I can pay someone else to do. Especially when I want to be sure it's done right.

I just did my 600 mi (1k km) maintenance 2 days ago. I used the DIY here:
http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=19368

Pretty much it's making sure nothing is loose, things are filled, adjustments are right. I found out my front tire was low on air, and my coolant was low. Everything else was in order. Took me about 3 hours I think. Definitely go for it if you're comfortable doing so!
And don't be afraid to ask questions. I was stumped on the coolant, ended up calling shops and making a post here to verify that all the info was correct before moving forward. Did upwards of 50 miles from that point to now, no issues, so it's all good!

$0 + oil + oil filter + crush washer + whatever bolts you manage to lose.

I had mine done by the shop because I don't have a place to do it at my apartment, not to mention the service plan was cheaper than I value my time...

The receipt shows a cost of about 175 but I didn't have to pay anything, It will be headed in here next week for the second oil change after my weekend ride.

I paid 120. I actually love my dealership, small town one thats been there for 30 years. Just 3 people work there, and they've treated me right from the beginning.

Making sure it "Done Right" is THE reason to do it yourself...

Not to say that it wouldn't get done right at a dealership but ... one never knows for sure

I just got my bike back today for the 1st maint. it cost $91.00. I wanted to make sure the first one was done, not feeling too comfortable with it, but I am planning on doing the rest of them

I am going to have to get me a set of good tools (not sure about the tool kit that came with the bike) and a manual and my computer so I can ask everyone if I am doing it right

If your supporting your local shop just because you wanna support them and trust them... then props to you.

I have a local shop like that, that does stuff for me when I just don't have the time. I normally have them do extra stuff when I change tires. Even though I can, I refuse to change tires at home. The owner comes out and says "I am not letting this challenge go unaddress" and keeps working at it until he gets it done right. That is when I knew, this is MY shop.

Uhm, you're being a creep dude. Once is enough. There's plenty of hot chicks in the world who ride motorcycles. They're also not married and don't only exist as a username on a forum. Get outside and find them.

You're like my co-worker that just gawks at girls and tries talking to them like he's some big shot who's going to give them anything they want. Then when they go running away because he's a creep he always calls them "****ing bitches" then is all sad about why women don't like him.

I'm not creeped out. I'm flattered. It's not often someone compliments me as such. Most people can be nasty or gross. He's not being rude. So, thank you.
