Hi from Vancouver! (Slight 64k Warning)

Hey everybody!

Just wanted to drop a line and say hi. I'm up in Vancouver, BC Canada and riding an 09 EX250R Special Edition.

A bit of history on the bike:
Previous owner put her in a ditch on the left side, cosmetic damage only. I bought it scratched on the left side. Currently it's waiting for a new signal and step assembly (rearset) on the right side as well as a jet kit and a good ol carb clean tomorrow.

A bit of history on me:
I've gone down twice on this bike, 2 weeks ago and 3 days ago. Both were at under 20km/h. The first was a lowside where I more or less ended up jumping off the bike and hit the ground running after locking up the rear then front on gravel in a newbie OH-FUDGE moment. This past Sunday I was highsided off the bike after the car in front of me dumped most of its oil which then coated my tires. This off hurt a little as it aggravated a previous shoulder injury and elbows took a good hit. It also sheared the footpeg/brake step assembly in half. Currently waiting on the part to replace it though the bike is rideable with a few tactical zip-ties and tape.

I do wear ATGATT, so neither offs have left any mark... except to my pride... and the bike, mostly on the left side.

I am a relatively new rider (1 mo riding) with two downs within 2 weeks and an 09 Ninja 250 with character. I did take an MSF course however advanced riding classes are planned. I have no plans to give up riding or have any more offs as I've experienced all three kinds; the lowside, highside and parking lot(ninja 500, powered off, don't ask). Now it's time for the fun to begin!

Here's how my right front footpeg's being held on...
The white line by the zip-ties is where the metal actually snapped and I have no use of my rear brake as it's being held up by zip ties.

And this is a picture of her when she was pretty... but there are plans in place to make her beautiful once more.

Welcome D!

I am the tape police and that rearset fix is not KY approved. Only 100% duck tape is allowed to be used. Besides, it's the only tape rated to 55mph.

jk yo, Keep riding, safely please.

Thanks for the welcomes!

I would upgrade to duck tape, but I fear all we have up here in Canada are geese

On the bright side, the $0.60 temporary fix is good prep for the trip I'm planning later this summer!

Welcome to the forum D, my sister lives in BC, Canada... says its really nice there, except for the cold. How often do you get to ride there considering the weather and all?

Hey Aman I took a look at the rider map and saw quite a few riders in the area, I may have spotted one or two of you folks already.

Most riders up here (warning, the follow information is biased, off of only one other forum) will ride between late march/mid april to september/october.

I've been riding from the beginning of March through rain, shine, snow, wind, hail and in everything from below freezing to 20*c. Having rain gear is something I'd recommend for Vancouver riding

You get used to it

"it" meaning that you arrive to your destination leaving a trail of water and have puddles forming below your gear

The weather just went from torrential downpour to glorious sunshine. Looks like it's time to ride.
