What was best, worst, weirdest thing you saw on backroad

I often turn up DEAD END and NO OUTLET roads and have seen some pretty interesting stuff.
My most interesting find was a few "stone sheds". I mean big flat natural stones maybe 8' x12' and a foot thick assembled to form a small building and always dug in to the ground.Researched them and no one knows where they came from for sure. Possibly farmers storage sheds, possibly revolutionary war ammo dumps, even speculated that they were built by Druids who got here before Columbus ??? Very weird structures

The weirdest thing i saw was in Montana, the back roads there had a posted speed limit of 75 with another sign right next to it warning about free roam cattle.

Drove by some guys cooking meth next to some one off custom offroad trucks. Guess how many teeth besides mine were in a 5 mile radius.

Middle of the night on the Cal24 rally last year, I was on a twisty road in the middle of nowhere that branches off Highway 36. There's nothing on that road for many miles. Just about halfway in, I come around the corner and there's this guy walking in the road with one arm. Not expecting anyone/anything that time of night, it was quite a sight. I thought I was in my own personal Fugitive movie.

He was probably 20 miles from civilization on either side from where he was on the road. It was weird.

That's what was weird about it. I'm on a motorcycle approaching on a completely dark, completely silent road. So he knew I was coming for miles, based on the engine and light. But he didn't acknowledge me, didn't even look up. If he had looked like he was asking for help, I probably would have considered stopping, but I was past him and it was over the same instant it was happening.

Indiana is mostly corn fields once you get out of the city. One night I was riding through a back road where there were no houses for quite a distance and as I glance up ahead about 50 yards, I see 2 people leaving the ditch and walked right into the corn.

Haven't been on that road since.

I saw a guy taking a dump next to the road once. Not just next to the road, he had pulled over to the side of the road, in his pickup truck, pulling a travel trailer (presumably with a bathroom inside) and had pulled off far enough that he could take a squat right in between the fog line and the travel trailer. Facing oncoming traffic.

Weird is a little subjective, I suppose the weirdest thing I have seen were a group of German tourists eating a picnic in the middle of the road, I guess they mistook it for a nature trail or something.

Link to original page on YouTube.

Skip to 1:05 I saw them at 1:25 - vid is not a vid of them, just the road, I am beeping because that's a two way 35mph road.

Hurm, too many cobwebs this morning,

Rode into Gabbs (tiny town about 80 miles from anywhere) around 10pm foolishly thinking the gas station might be open. So, when I found it wasn't, I rode up the main street and found an impromptu basketball game going on. I rode through the court (street) as carefully as I could cause there was families participating and on the sidelines.

Hopefully one of the teams didn't get a penalty point for delay of game due to motorcycle.

Saw an SUV pulled over at a Halaal meat processing plant and a guy looked like he was flashing his cock at some goats that had escaped. It think he worked there.

I am totally serious right now.

CZroe strikes again....

Worst thing on a backroad.

Waiting at the next stop sign for the group finally tuning back to find a guy in our group ran wide in a corner hit a tree and died. His dad was behind him on another bike, he watched his son die.

Ahh, resurrected threads.

Weirdest thing on a backroad. In this case "backroad" is more "dirt trails in the desert". Was a good 20 miles from the nearest sign of civilization, in the mountains there is this natural spring that at one point someone had walled up and fenced off to keep animals from getting in, and installed a pipe that carried the water down to the bottom of this hill. They'd even installed a spigot at the end of the pipe.

But that's not the weird thing. Buddy and I were stopped there, figuring out where to go next when this grizzled old dude walks out of the bushes. Huge scruffy beard, floppy hat, overalls and wearing a checkered flannel shirt. Full on miner fourty-niner look going on. Had a scruffy old dog with him. Walked over to the spigot, turned it on, spent a moment brushing his teeth and then walked back into the desert.

We sat there watching him befuddled, and he never so much as acknowledged our presence the whole time. No idea where he came from or where he went. In the end we just kind of shrugged and went on our way.

On an old long deserted trail known as Old Doc Rogers there used to be a sanitarium. Well, I guess the road still exists but the upper part of it is large rocks and deep ruts accessible only by small off-road vehicles. We had hiked the trail several times before but this time we were determined to get to the end so we took a modded Suzuki Samurai and a couple of ATV's.

Up toward the top we found the sanitarium and hung out for a bit looking at the abandoned building with the hospital beds and rusted old equipment. So on the way back I saw an old horse drawn carriage out of the corner of my eye. It was down an embankment so I decided to go check it out. Same story, old rusted equipment with a medical cross painted on the side. Pretty neat stuff. On my way back up I stepped on an old boot and what pops out of the ground but an old foot still inside the boot and the remains of a tibia and fibula.

This was also in Tennessee

To the best of my knowledge that is part of a series of buildings marking/covering a tunnel that connected the powerhouse to the dam that they used during construction.

It's a platform for the winch they used to get the materials up and down from the tracks, we were describing it to a local history buff and he told us about it. We also went back to the wall where the pipe goes through and the access door was unlocked, nobody went in but I wanted to! Lol

Worst: cruising along a back road (spirited pace) and a tractor with a front loader bucket comes out of nowhere mid corner from the treeline along side the road. I was 2up on the r6 with the wife, we ducked under the bucket.

I will admit, I was frozen. It was pure luck that we are still here because I didn't do anything... I was committed to the turn. I could have stood it up and went into oncoming traffic, but naww...... f dat. One of the few times, I feel was in error with my riding on the street.
