Rear Brake Question

I had my local shop replace my rear brake about a year and a half ago. Yesterday, it fell out of the rotor and it looked like it does in these pictures. In addition, the rotor was all discolored as you can see.

Before I replace the brake pad, should I clean the rotor? Should the shop replace it for me? I didn't think the brake pad should have worn out that quickly.

Here are the pictures:

The first and third are the completely worn down brake pad. The second picture is of the rear rotor.

If it was my bike i think i would replace the rotor, not just clean the old one...

Hell, if my cars rotors looked like that i would change them...

Also check to make sure it is not sticking

Because of the Pistons are sticking it'll constantly wear mine was stuck and exhibited a slight pull to the right side.
Just make sure once you get the pads back in that it spins freely

Measure the thickness of the rotor + compare to specs and check it's straightness. If both are good, the no replace. Just lightly sand with new pads w/ a good bleed and bedding and you should be straight.

Because if the Pistons are sticking it'll constantly wear your brake pads out.

My rear caliper was stuck and exhibited a slight pull to the right side with no pressure applied to either side of the handlebars.

Just make sure once you get the pads back in that it spins freely. You can use the rear shock as a jack point.

Then just spin it with your hand.

Too much heat has been there, probably damaging the parts of the caliper and the brake fluid.

I would take it to a professional shop for evaluation of the disc and caliper and for a full replacement of the brake fluid.

Check this thread out for replacements:

Replace disc/caliper/pads/fluid.

Previous owner of my bike ran the rear brake down to metal on metal, requires new disc
