Issues with a leaky carb
Hello all, I am new here and pretty new to owning a bike.
About a month ago I dropped my bike going 30 and had to do some maintenance. The shop I towed my bike to told me the engine was hydro locked and that other than a carb clean and replacing a fuel line (it was the petcock, and that change went along just fine it seems), the bike should be good. I attempted to clean the carb myself but now it seems I've created an issue and the carb itself is leaking! Also, the bike makes a deep rumble and has no power past 5k RPMs. Trying to locate the leak itself is a bit difficult but it seems to be coming from either the top, or the middle. I found this old thread that seems to match up a bit of the currents problems but I'm not entirely sure, given that I am also having the power/acceleration issues I described. If anyone can provide any help narrowing down a cause it would be much appreciated. |

I'd just be guessing. Within a service, I'm certain I'd stumble upon it. If you require a pro look, let me know.

I'm tempted but I've had to spend tons because my car had issues recently as well. Is it okay if I message you?

To find cause of leak, is multi-step process. Similar to fixing oil or coolant leaks, first step is to determine where leak is originating from. To do this, completely clean off carbs. So that there's no external signs of petrol anywhere.
Then turn on petcock and apply vacuum to get flow. Then look carefully all over carbs to see where fresh petrol is appearing. You can also get flourescent dye to put into tank and it will glow brightly with UV light at source of leak. Second step after determining location of leak is fixing cause of leak. Depending upon where it's coming from, could be float-bowl seals, or higher up due to leaky float-valves. Float-valves most likely need replacing given your hydrolock condition. Another secondary and separate issue is you need petcock rebuild kit. |

Carbs need complete disassembly, deep cleaning, rebuilding, and adjusting.
Save yourself the aggravation and send them to ducatiman. Without proper cleaning, you are going to be fiddling with them over and over - and it will never run right. |

prior to your most valid posting, @jkv45....I was going to post that I'd be inclined to replace every seal/oring especially on an '03. Sounds as if OP's clean didn't include a split (thus failing to replace all consumables involved)
While doing so, examining prior reassembly and setup, thus carefully reassembling and finishing with wet (and other) testing, assuring quality of job PRIOR to reassembly to carbs on bike.

There is a t-connector for the carb over fill tube that has o-ring that might leak after 10 years or so, it could be that, or could be the carb bowl drain screws
