Never too late or too old to get my own bike!
Hello Everyone! After being a passenger for 17 years behind my husband and seeing nothing but a reflection of my head off his helmet, I finally decided to learn how to ride and get my own bike. I got my dream 2011 Harley Davidson Sportster Superlow even before I got my permit, but soon found out that it was much too heavy to learn on. My husband suggested that I get used to riding with a Ninjette first (I'm only 5 ft) so I got the 2011 Ninja 250R Special Edition. He lowered it by 3 inches by installing Roaring Toyz lowering links and riser blocks. I was looking for ideas and a forum for Ninja 250s and found Ninjette.org!

He's a smart man. He steered you to the correct bike to learn on. Enjoy your stay.

Welcome, I think alot more women are getting into motorcycles. The MSF course I took this summer was split 6 men and 6 women and 4 of those women were tired of being passengers with their husbands. Are you taking a MSF course or is your husband the teacher?

Welcome, Annie! I grew up in NJ. I'd doublecheck if the rear of the bike was really lowered a full 3 inches. If so - consider bumping it down to 2 inches or so. Otherwise the tire can come in contact with the undertail when hitting a particular sharp bump, damaging the plastic and causing the tire to skid, if only for a moment. Also - it's not a bad idea to stiffen up the rear preload a notch or two to make bottoming out slightly less likely.

Thank you! I took the MSF course a couple of months ago & just been practicing/riding whenever I can. For now my husband always rides behind me.
It has been bottoming/rubbing the underneath whenever I go over big bumps... I will look at the height & preload in the morning. Each ride is a learning experience! |

Welcome to Ninjette.org. Your husband is a wiser man than he realizes. Don't spank him too hard on curvy roads with your nimble 250R. A man's gotta have his pride.

Welcome Annie. I've got the exact same Ninjette as you.
Love that you've got two motorcycles to call your own already! You're going full steam into the whole motorcycle thing. |
