what a day

so i've got 100k+ miles of riding experience and 25k alone on my pregen.
i happily drove my bike to work today and park it safely away from most traffic and peds.

but it so happens today was not my day. an unruly customer of a neighboring business escorted an individual out of the building who decided to take out his aggression by kicking over my bike.

so here i am liab only policy. bent handlebar cracked fairings and dmg exhaust/mirrors/ gas tank. and a guy that may never be able to make good on a debt owed.
any one have any expierence with vandals?

and what are some good parts sources for handlebars? i've checked bike bandit

that freaking blows, only thing I can say is to invest in a bit more insurance because you're likely not going to see any money from this guy unless you manage to get him in court

sounds like he may be military so i may have a chance. the assult charges pressed on top of the vandal claim lock him up and require him to appear. weather he makes good on his debt is another case.

got my fingers crossed though.

Very sorry to hear about the damage to your moto. If you have witnesses and info regarding the perpetrator I would make a police report so that the perp can be held accountable legally and hopefully financially. Hopefully some parking lot video cameras were operating. Unfortunately these are the risks that we who choose to opt for liability only coverage face.
I hope everything works out OK for you.

Leverage. Slip a long enough hollow pipe over the bar and get a friend to help counter the pressure. It will bend back straight. Have done many times.

I think about this happening sometimes .. sorry to hear about your bad luck.

If you have any video surveillance of the guy that would come in handy. If not, you might be out of luck if no one can prove it was him and that he actually kicked it over.

Handlebars can be had on ebay or from someone parting out cheap, don't necessarily have to buy new. Good excuse to put a Two Brothers on there!!! Or Muzzy!! Mirrors can also be had pretty cheaply. Gas tank not so much... Is it dented really bad?

Just be careful they don't total your bike for this lol. It can happen, fairings, tank and muffler are expensive to replace.

est in from a reputable shop. 2999.94 in damages.
2655.94 in parts alone.
broke the gauge housing and frame supports. they wrote to replace the tank and upper cowel at 1400 bucks. so i likely wouldnt need to do the repairs as noted

Ouch. That's horrible.

This doesn't make it any better for you, but I'm really glad it's just your bike that got messed up and not you. Machines can be replaced.

I hope you find a way to fix or replace your machine as soon as possible. I also hope the guy that kicked it over grows a conscience and then has to live with himself knowing the harm he has caused you and probably lots of other people in his life.

Sorry, I couldn't fully make out what you said Andrew. The guy who kicked your bike over was a serviceman? What branch and any info did you find on him? His superiors will not like it if they catch wind of this.

i think he meant the serviceman escorted the unruly customer out, and the customer then kicked the bike.

i'd be worried about bending that aluminum triple, or those puny forks... or the mild steel frame that has basically no diagonal supports... not hurting my tiny girl arms.

Well shoot, if you take him to court and get that kind of money, sell if for $600-700 and pocket the money for another bike.

I think it's absolutely ridiculous how a perfectly fine running bike can be 'totalled' by kicking it over in the parking lot. Totally ridiculous.

Which is the ridiculous part? That it costs so much for labour and parts or that they don't design bikes to be resilient against 0mph drops to begin with?

(btw: hello Chris Long time no speak )

The cost for new parts! It's silly how high the cost runs up and how quickly it gets there for minor things. Like a crack in a fairing. Clearly that needs a new fairing because the whole thing is broken!

to be fair, i'm pretty sure if you turned a car on its side it would be totaled also.

I guess i should explain the situation better.

my office is in a bank building. a service man came in drunk to get funds from an over drawn account. he was escorted out of the bank by the bank and building security.

the guy ended up walking past my motorcycle and started yelling at the bike for what ever reason.

security advised him to move along.

the individual in question pushed it over its side stand on to the left side.

security advised this guy they were calling the police.

the guy then attacked the security guard punching him ini the face, then getting tackeled and retained until police arrived where he was arrested on assult charges and property damage charges/ drunk disorderly and misc other crap.

if the guy is truly active military i'm most optimisitic for recovery as i will file an article 21 in the state of texas w/ his 1st sergent and have funds pulled right out of his paycheck.

if not i'm likely sol. as his bank account balence is likely reflective of how much i'll get back. Zero.

--
the estimate is to replace the faring and tank exhaust, along with the housing for the guages and handle bar assembly on the left. the biggest factor was the tank at 800 bucks.
but regardless if the settlement does go through i would likely be able to live with most the cosmetic damage and just repair the handle bar assembly and guage housing. priced new should be around 200 bucks

Demotion or get the boot. Maybe some hard time. Either way hope it pans out for you. You can easily get the info on him and get paid. You'll get paid.
