My favorite solution so far:
http://advrider.com/forums/showpost....&postcount=115 "Broke the lower shock mount off of my swing arm so I had to convert her to a "hard tail" Rock and a few zip ties and she was rolling again..."

MacGyver was awesome! Though watching those shows now is really hard since they are so dated.
Thankfully I haven't had to resort to any MacGyverisms for the bike. Had to on several other things, but not the bike. :knock on wood:

Back in the day...I blew a fuse on my CB160. As I recall...it had only 1 fuse.
Back in the day...cigarettes came with a wrapping of real metallic foil. Had a smoke, ripped the wrapping out of my Chesterfields and wrapped the fuse. Got me home. |

This was my MacGuyver field solution. I actually posted a thread about this, but the photos got eaten by facebook. Here is my problem, and how I solved it:
The short version of the story is that I noticed I couldn't shift, saw the shifter flopping about, then managed to limp my bike to Lowe's using only 5th or 6th gear, and after a few trips to the bolts drawer, I was able to fix it enough to get it home and order the correct part! |

MacGyver, wasn't he the guy those two hot sisters on the Simpsons liked?
I think he was an actor playing a part on a TV show. So, I think the writers would be the smart guys behind the magic of his know-how. Being a motorcyclists you need the know-how to fix things while on the road.

All the time, one thing or another. When I went down last Feb my rearset broke so I used paracord to put it back together enough to ride it home. Had to do it in 2nd gear, but at least I didn't have to walk.

I think the rock shock is prob the most creative fix i ever saw.
We once used a tree root and a belt to reattach a snapped off ninjette left handlebar ( no pix available) The root...we ground down( on a rock) to the proper diam to make an internal coupling between the handle bar and the "handlebar hole-mount" on top of the triple and we passed the belt behind the clutch lever and around the upper fork leg and pulled it tight. Rode her about 10 miles and got help but...could have taken it 100 miles. Many many years ago....when Brit parts took 3 weeks to arrive...my pal's BSA exhaust pipe broke off right at the engine. He drilled a hole right thru the diameter of the pipe...put in a long machine screw that came out both sides and wrapped a wire hanger around the protruding ends of the screw and then tightly around the engine. He got the new pipe 3 weeks later but the hanger and screws kept him riding. |
