Motofool says good bye
Some of you have known that my vision has been rapidly deteriorating.
This past week, it has been worse and I went to see my eye doctor today. He has explained that this is related to a retinal vascular accident. Reading books and computer's screens is now a very difficult thing for me to do. I believe that I will be able to ride my beloved pre-gen and do mechanical work a little longer, but not much more, as he stated that this problem is degenerative and irreversible. I just want to use this last post to sincerely thank all the members that have shared this precious years of posting and learning in Ninjette.org. Please, direct new members/riders to our Riding Skills section, even when they insist on carburetors that have been "perfectly cleaned" and are only interested on modifications to multiply H.P.'s and produce cool sounds. Ask each of them to work hard on the rider before start working on the bike. "My favorite things in life don't cost any money. It's really clear that the most precious resource we all have is time." "Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition." "Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart." - Steve Jobs My best wishes to all !!!

I'm so very sorry to hear this! (re-checks calendar in the hopes that this is April 1st). I'm not sure any of us would be able to identify a member here who has had a more positive and impactful contribution to our community. It's inspiring to me that even with this, Motofool manages to discuss it in a hopeful manner. Best of luck in whatever comes next, Hernan, and you will be greatly missed.

Hernan; my sincere best wishes to you. Though I have been aware of and read your contributions for only far too short a time; it is obvious to anyone the huge contribution you have made here and I'm sure elsewhere to safer riding and machine understanding than anyone I have ever known. There will be a huge hole here that cannot be filled by any other.
Please excuse my clumsy thumb trying to give you a helpful post credit. Unfortunately; there seems to be no way to reverse it and that is a shame considering the magnitude of your post now and your past contributions. All the best to you and I will think of you whenever I post my contributions to others and hope they may in some small way reflect yours.

Sorry to hear you have to say goodbye to this community. You certainly have been one of the top posters toward influencing this forum.
Would you perhaps think about implementing a text-to-speech and speech-to-text to have the ability to have a continued appearance here?

Very sorry to hear about your vision. Hope you can continue riding for a long time.
You have always been the first to jump in and offer help to people when they need it. We will have to work hard to even begin to fill the void that is left. The forum won't be the same without you. Take care, and know that many appreciate all the help you have provided. |

Hernan I'm really sorry to hear what you are going through. I appreciate the quality and quantity of posts you make on a daily basis and look forward to re-reading your threads on riding skills every spring.
I hope I'm not overstepping but I don't know if you had an opportunity to explore options like screen readers. If you haven't there are products like JAWS that were created to assist those with visual impairments. http://www.freedomscientific.com/Pro...Blindness/JAWS. I'm wishing you the very best. |

Hernan, you've been a great friend to have around on the forums. It's sad to see you go, but I do understand that sometimes life happens differently than we planned. I wish you all the best and I'll keep you in my thoughts, hoping for the best for you!!!!!!
One of the most beautiful truths I've heard in a movie is from Shawshank Redemption and is very applicable here: "I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up DOES rejoice. But still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they're gone. I guess I just miss my friend." It's been great having you here while we can. |

Wow, what an absolute bummer to read. Very few men have had the impact on new rider's lives that Hernan has here with his boundless and unwaveringly helpful advice. Lives have surely been saved, many more have certainly been changed for the better.
I wish you peace in the new adventure life has bestowed upon you. May you embrace it with the same wisdom, patience, and warmth that you've shown us here.

I only know you as an avatar and words on a screen, but it still makes me legitimately upset to see something like this happen to someone who I can undoubtedly say has brought wisdom, knowledge, kindness, and all that good stuff into the world. I can confidently say that my riding experience has been enriched with your assistance. Who knows? I might have wrecked or died without your posts on technique and attitude, humility and, well, everything.
I'm sad to see you go, and sad that this is happening to you. While I can only speak for myself, I'd be surprised if anyone disagrees when I say that if we can help you, we'd be glad you repay your kindness however we can. Best of luck, pal. |

I am so very sorry to read this.
When I was 14 I lost 60% of the hearing in my right ear. Not a problem. Saturday when I woke up I could not hear out of my left ear and have a pronounced ringing of tinnitus. Now I can bairly hear anything. Loosing senses is a very traumatic thing. And somthing we take for granted until it happens. You might want to find and contact "Dan Parker Quest for the Salt". Get in touch with Dan. He is an insperation to me and others. He may be able to help you

I am glad that I was granted the opportunity to learn from your wisdom, experience, and knowledge Though you may not be able to continue guiding those who need it, I certainly hope that you have many days of riding left ahead of you Godspeed old friend

AMD Motofool. There is excellent screen reader software from freedom scientific called JAWS. If you do want to remain active on the forum, it may be a way to do so. I do not know, but if the software that backs the forum was designed keeping assistance technologies in mind it should work well.

Unfortunate, sobering news. I'm saddened to see you go.
Much like the memento mori quote you included from Steve Jobs, remember that life continues. There are joys still to be had after every loss.
